Good meals require wise planning, and this is what Mrs. Cutts and Mrs. Quinn have shown in the variety of nutricious meals which they have served throughout the school year. Q IMI v A X L J, M. STUDENT HELP IN CAEETERIA There are many students this year who volunteered their lunch hours to work in the cafeteria. In pay- ment for their service, they receive free lunches. MAINTENANCE CREXY! An efficient maintenance crew is important in 21 school of this size. We are fortunate to have such a crew here at our high school. Youll still see Mrs. Munsens smiling face. She is secretary to the Board of Education, Treasurer, and business manager of District 428, ff: l 'Yu--7 19 1, i MRS, FISHER and MRS. COHENOVR Mrs. Mildred Fisher and Mrs. Lois Cfohenour, who in the student office act as ''jacks-of-all-trades, al- ways have a pleasant smile for exeryone. They are willing and ready to help the students whenever they can. Mr. Morley has been here for two years as Director of Curriculum. During that time he has aided the high school faculty in using new materials and new techniques of instruction in their classrooms. Mrs. Anderson has been here as Director of the Guidance Program and Counselor for girls for four years. Planning the testing program and using it to help students make plans for the future is part of her work. MR. MORLEY and MRS, ANDERSON ,Pi are The Student Council for this school year was led by Student Body President, Ernie Hanson, and spon- sored by Mr. Smith. The council was made up of a boy and a girl from each home room and elected the following officers: Bob Bartels, vice president, janet Holmes, secretary, and Jim Hutten, treasurer. The Student Council sponsored many school activi- ties to develop better school spirit, improve student- faculty relationships, and solve various school prob- lems. ERNEST HANSON Student Body President A few of these activities included: the Homecom- ing celebration, the first all-student assembly, the Mardi-Gras, Holiday Tournament Dance, and a flag selling project. With Mrs. Rutledge as aclvisor of the local chapter, ii is organized to encourage and reward journalistic achievements. For eligibility a student must have 100 inches of Small printed copy or its equivalent in work on a school publication. Golden. mary The D.C.H.S. varsity gridders started a very success- ful season by downing Marmion 18-6. They then tied Wfest Aurora and whipped Hall, Dixon, Rochelle, Ot- tawa, and Belvidere. The only loss was at the hands of Sterling, 20-O. At the close of the season several of coach Bill Townes' chargers gained conference and state honors. Those boys named to the all-conference teams were Don Anderson, Paul Jacobson, and Ken Miller, first team, aolfaff and Don Gilkison, Jerry Golden, Bill Breen, Dick Carlson and Dick Huntwork, second team and honorable mention. All but Jacobson and Miller were seniors. This was Mr. Heimer- dinger's first year at D. H. S. This year nine lettermen were back which aided in the winning of games. The freshman newcomers looked very promising for next year's team. Hard work and plenty of practice was visible in every game. Whether they won or lost, the team was always giving its best. Z The DeKalb High School baseball team, coached by George Dertinger, had a fine season in 1954. The team was composed mostly of freshmen and sopho- mores with Don Anderson being the only upper- classman. The team finished in second place with Sterling taking first. In addition, the team participated in district, state, and conference meets.
