Besides serving as secretary to the superintendent, she is business manager and secretary for the Board of Education. 'P '37 MRS. FISHER and MRS, COHENOUR Because of the competent secretaries, the student office of the DeKalb Township High School runs smoothly and efficiently at all times. Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. Cohenour answer hundreds of student ques- tions daily in addition to doing their many other tasks. MAINTENANCE One of the most important but possibly one of the least appreciated groups is the maintenance staff, who care for D.T.H.S. the year 'round. This is a tremendous task, and everyone is grateful for the good work they have done. Pictured here from left to right are: Ray Pollack, Ben Snyder, Quentin Tucker, Nels johnson, and Dennis Swede john- SOD. ,Q MRS. ANDERSON and MR. MORLEY Bcrneicc Anderson irls' counsellor and Mr Mrs. - - ' A ,g A , . Franklin Morley, director of curriculum, hold very important and responsible positions in both the elementary and the high schools of DeKalb. I As we near the completion of another school year, the students can be proud of the achievements of their Student Council. Led by Student Body President Roger Kallal, and sponsored by Mr. Smith, the Council consisted of a boy and a girl, from each home room. Their choice for officers were vice president, David Hop- peg secretary, Carol Hutchison, an d treasurer, Lois Schauer, Organized for the primary purpose of helping in the harmonious running of the school through developing better school spirit, improving student-faculty relationships, and aiding in the solving of school problems, the Student Council carried out a wide and varied program of activities. Once more we can say that the Stu- dent Council has met its responsibilities to the students it represented. Slndenl Body Preridezzl ROGER KALLAL .fx 'ar First row: J. Lovell, A. Montavon. J. Before admittance is granted, the student must meet the fol- lowing requirements: he must have 100 inches of published copy or, equivalent work on a school publication, he must be recommended by the faculty ad- visor and approved by interna- tional headquarters. Mrs. Rutledge is the faculty advisor for the local chapter. chem! 300302 acdely In 1922 the National Honor Society was organized to recog- nize outstanding juniors and Seniors in high schools through- out the United States. In 1925, just three years after its begin- ning, D e K al b organized its branch. To become eligible for mem- bership a student must be in the upper one-third of his class. All who meet this scholastic require- ment are then rated by their classmates on leadershipg charac- ter, and service to the school. Finally, the faculty vote on those students who have re- ceived their classmates' recom- mendation. Only 59? of the Juniors and lifc of the Seniors can be elected in any one year. First row: C. Painting flats, learning lines, and applying make-up were among their tasks. First they presented The Rivals on November 11 and 13. One-act plays, contest plays, and Christmas skits were also on their agenda. To guarantee its success, the club, of which Mr. james Bost was the sponsor, chose the following officers: Randy johnson, presidentg Corrine Clark, vice presidentg Ernest Hanson, secretaryg and Barbara Hoisington, treasurer. Troupe 756 of the National Thespian Society has also been active at D.T.H.S. By earning points equivalent to 100 hours of work, any Dramatic Club member can join this organization. Surely all agree that the Dramatic Club provided work and fun for members and fine entertainment for everyone. 1 if 2 ew ga fp -v X.,- Mrb, LiLIXCI'!ZlC'. J. The Girls' Athletic Asso- ciation is a state organization of girls participating in such activities as hockey, speed- away, volleyball, basketball, dancing, archery, and soft- ball. The alumni hockey break- fast and game, the Christmas b a n q u e t, and the Yale- Princeton basketball g a m e were among the important activities of the year. Each year awards are made to girls who earn points by participating in v a r io u s sports. A pin with the G.A.A. emblem is the first award. The second is numer- als, and then the school let- ter D is presented. Low State and High State awards are next. The highest honor for a G.A.A. member is the honor cup. This is presented to a senior girl who has been outstanding in leadership, sportsmanship, honor, serv- ice, and loyalty. Leading the club this year were Janice Averill, presi- dent, Barbara Anderson, vice president, Diane Schomper- len, secretaryg Rita Hayes, treasurer, and a council made up of ten girls. Wmadtq The Barbs played fast and exciting basketball during the 1955-1954 season. One noticeable feature of their attack was a fast break, which proved im- portant in sacking up a score. Seniors Dick Paszotta and Bob Vaughn consist- ently dropped the ball in. Paszotta worked from the pivot position, while Vaughn kept the games alive as guard. jerry Van Meter and Gail Cook, juniors, also played at the guard post. Ernie Hanson, usually a starter, put on a display of good rebounding. Ernie, Zcwdetlall a junior, also tallied regularly on the score card. Seniors Roger Kallal and john Spafford saw action at the forward position. Sophomores Merle Green- acre and jim Pevonka were reserve forwards. The Barbs set a one-game scoring record in the Holiday Tournament by defeating Shabbona 95-46. Coach Dertinger's quint moved to the semifinals but were beaten 55 to 40 by the strong Leyden team, the winner of the tournament. 'fu x l if .fax :V - 2? ua nn ll 5 .
