This did not just happen but was brought about by hard work on the part of all the three chorus groups: the girls' chorus, the mixed ensemble and the girls' quartet. This last, composed of Ida Oderkirk, Beverly Lyons Caroline Fuller, and Jeannine Galbreath is a new organization in the chorus this year. Page 43 During the year the chorus sang for the Homemakers' Club, the Woman's Club, and at the First Methodist Church. In March the girls' chorus appeared at the Kiwanis-Chronicle banquet for high school athletes. The 'Red Devils were just too fast for the Barbs to handle. Next the Barbs were subdued by the Dixon Dukes by a 13-0 score as Dick Dusing scored two touchdowns to beat the Barbs almost single- handed. Sterling got a scare as Jim Bjorn took the opening kick off and ran it back for a touchdown This served however as an inspiration to the Golden Warriors for they defeated the Barbs 39 Z9 in a scoring duel The Ottawa Pirates helped by a rainstorm in the middle of the sec ond quarter beat the Barbs on an early splurge before the rain Final score: Ottawa 12, DeKalb 0. The Barbs finally got back on the winning side of the ledger as they defeated the injury-ridden Rock Falls Rockets by a 34-0 count.
