The team, hampered by an abnormal number of injuries and sicknesses, was at a disadvantage for several games. Having started the season strongly. they were slowed up a bit after the Van Wert game, not fully regaining their grip until the final Whitmer game. The Bu1lpuppies spent a very profitable season under the coaching of Mr. Wiseman and Mr. Gecowets. Winning three games, tying two and losing one, the Iunior Bulldogs gained much valuable experience that will strengthen the Varsity team in coming years. Cheerleaders help, loo Gangvvay! V HSITY B SKETB LL... Although Defiance High School Bulldogs' season ended with five victories and five defeats in regular league play, they had a rather successful season. By defeating first Bryan, the league champs, and then Montpelier in the tour- nament, they took home a runner's-up trophy, being defeated 59 to 58 by Van Wert in the finals. Defiance suffered some heart-breaking defeats this year, losing by only small margins. The team was composed of mostly Juniors and Sophomores with only two Seniors. Gary Wagner was the outstanding thinclad in Defiance's 1951 track sea- son. In the first meet he copped four firsts: 440, 220, 100 yard dash, and the broad jump. In the League meet Wagner took first in the 440 and Ioe Doody took the discus. Wagner also got seconds in the 220 and a fourth in the 100 yard dash. Paul Warnimont came in second in the mile. Ensign, Goshia, Baldwin, and Bayliss took second in the mile relay. You see, the entertainment at their Christmas meeting was provided by a hypnotist. 13-Santa Claus, alias Mr. Henkle, was the main attraction at the Boosters' Christmas Party held in the Community Room. l7-The Choir presented its Christmas Concert at 8:00 p.m. 22-Sweet music for dancing marked the annual Hi-Y Christmas Dance.
