The Pathfinders' Club One of the best known clubs of its kind in Portland is the Pathfinders' Club of Deering and Lincoln junior High Schools, consisting of mothers of the students. Scholarships are given at the end of each year to deserving seniors. The outstanding event this year was an evening meet- ing in January attended by both fathers and mothers, when the Home Economics and Industrial Arts rooms were open with demonstrations of work, preceded by a program consisting of a Minstrel Show by Boy Scout Troop 9, a talk by Dr Lyseth, music by the Deering j.V. Band, and refreshments. The Pathhnders' Officers are: Mrs. William Linnell, presi- dentg Mrs. Eric Adde, first vice president, Mrs. Myron Lamb, second vice president, Mrs. Carl Becker, recording secretary, Mrs. A. Clifford Bayer, corresponding secretary, Mrs. Edgar Damon, treasurer. Faculty advisers are Miss Adelaide Briggs and Mrs. Carrie Morrison. Band Mothers' Club The Deering High School Band Mothers' Club has been active the past year raising funds to carry on the interests of the band. The officers of the club are: Mrs. Walton Libby, presidentg Mrs. Carl Pettengill, vice president, Mrs. Charles Quincy, sec- retary, Mrs. Carl Patten, treasurer. The meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at the high school. The largest project of the year was the compiling and selling of the cook books, Cooking to Beat the Band. This has been so successful that it is to be carried on during the summer and into next year. Other projects were a dance at the school' in the fall, the Fathers, Day concert in january and the annual concert and dance in City Hall in March and several paper drives. As a result of these projects we sent the band to the Western Maine Music Festival at Brunswick, Maine and to the New England Festival at Hampton Beach, N. H. We bought some new instruments and added to the uniform fund. In February the Band was invited to play a joint concert with the Medford High School Band at Medford, Mass. This was a trip long to be remembered. It has been a pleasure to work for a Band of which we are all so proud. Orchestra Mothers' Club The Deering High School Orchestra Club was formed by a few interested mothers of orchestra members, approximately ten years ago, for the purpose of supporting the orchestra by sending it to the festivals and by furnishing its members with uniforms. Mrs. Raymond McCubrey was the first president of the club, which had a membership of about forty mothers. The 1947-1948 officers are: Mrs. Lawrence H. Kimball, pres- identg Mrs. S. E. Crosby, vice presidentg Mrs. Raymond Borstel, secretaryg Mrs. Lawrence Plowman, treasurer. The club's projects this year have included a talent show, a vesper concert, and the annual orchestra concert, which were all held in the high school auditorium. La. J
