Students are chosen from the upper third of their class for scholastic achievement, character. leadership. and service to the school during their four years. In tozt, the National Association of Secondary School Principals decided that there should be some recognition made for students who have achieved distinction in the qualities for which schools were organized. 'l'hus. the National Honor Society was organized. This membership is an honor toward which every Deering student should strive: it means enrollment in an organization which, although only twelve years old, has over l,lOO chapters and 65.000 members. Fourteen members of the class of 1933 were awarded National Honor Society emblems. Among these are representatives from several school organizations as well as many outstanding athletes. E141
