A S T O On September ll 19147, six girls and three boys graced the halls of Deerfield High School by becoming members of the freshman class The upperclassmen may have thought we were green but we knew differ ently, at least we thought we did The members of our class included Richard Coleman, Betty Corbett, Faith Fulton, Jimmie LaFon, Melda Moreland, Luella Ploeger, Jack Randolph, Joan Stengel, and Stanley Tackett As usual we were given our choice of four subjects On Friday of the first week the seniors put us through some kind of an ordeal which they called initiation That evening they gave us a party We were glad when it was over but we all had a good time, anyway Our officers were president, Joan Stengel vice president, Faith Fulton, secretary treasurer, Jimmie LaFon With our sponsor, Miss Ryman, we had our usual class parties We never will forget the one when we went to Lake lcKinney on a Weiner roast le all had loads of fun, but I'l1 bet Miss Ryman was glad when we all got back to Deer field We finally struggled through our freshman subjects so that we could call ourselves sophomores This year we had the same members in our class as we did in our freshman class Our officers were treasurer, Luella Ploeger Our sponsor was again Miss Ryman This year our activities consisted of helping the juniors sell magazines, serving at one basketball game, and by serving at the junior senio banquet We ended our sophomore year by going to the Scott County Park on an all school picnic At last come our junior year Our bank account looked pretty low so we decided we had better quit loafing and start making some money if we wanted to go on a senior trip This year we lost Hichard Coleman and Betty Corbett but gained Angel Hernandez and Maxine Corbett In October Jim ie LaFon became Mrs Melvin Yerz and in December Faith Fulton changed her name to Mrs Bobby Landon, and quit school to keep house We chose as our class officers, president, Joan Stengel vice president, Stanley Tacket, secretary, Jimmie Merz treaslrer, Jack Randolph Our sponsor was Miss Pearl Conway Our first activity of the year Entertainment for the evening was a reading by Jaon Stengel, an accordian musical reading by Jimmie Merz Paul tioneer was to sponsor a box supper piano solo by Faith Fulton, a solo by Luella Ploeger, and a Hagler did a fine job as auc Later in the year we sold pop, hot dogs, candy, and gum at several basketball games This added quite a bit to our bank account I' C L S H I S R Y D I .. president, Faith Fulton, vice- president, Jim ie LaFong secretary-
