- XENO - World Come To DHS On February 40th, sheltered DHS students got to have their yearly experience with other cultures at Ethnocenter. This custom was initiated by Randall Schultz and John Vacek in 4977. The two men were downtown visiting Mayor Daley's ethnic folk festival when an inspiration hit them. They decided that it would be good to have an ethnic celebration at DHS to fill the mid-winter void. Ethnocenter, as it is called, has since become a popular tradition, with about one hundred students participating this year. This year, real weird exhibits were kept to a minimum in order to help keep Ethnocenter justifiable from an educational standpoint. This did not, however, prevent students from experiencing a huge range of cultures - from Lithuania to Ecuador to Indonesia, and of course most of Europe. Randall Schultz commented, Ethnocenter allows students to be introduced to all kinds of backgrounds. lt is an all-around good time in a cultural setting. Colleen Piersen, representing Russia at Ethnocenter, laughingly added, There's so much that we share, so it's time we're aware, it's a small world after all. TOP: Abbodanza Papa Gulotta.
