Ami Activities 1 v Mary Peace and Dennis Peake point to the ACTIVITIES CALEN- DAR which was one of this yeafs Student Council projects. This year the Student Council has initiated several new activities. At the beginning of the school year an orienta- tion day was held in which the mem- bers of the Student Council showed new students the ropes of Deer Park' High School. Another new program was the huge activity calendar posted on the wall in the cafeteria. A Student Council workshop was held at Deer Park. Members of our Student Council also attended workshops at various other schools. The Student COuncil also span; sored May at Midnight , one of the dances held at Deer Park. The Student Council, the body of our student government, is under the ca- pable leadership of Bob Smith, Presi- dent, and Miss Williams, advisor. 95 96 National h BOTTOM ROW: Mary Pcac'c, Pat Wiikoff, Diane Obcrmcycn Nancy Neisz. 2nd ROWE Carol Mattingly, Sandy Seyffer, Carol Hackney, Diane Forster. Leadership, character, service, and scholnp shipithese are the qualities which the youth in National Honor Society must possess. It is a mistaken idea that brains are the only require- ment to belong Ali the others are just as im- portant. It is truly a great honor to be tapped for the National Honor Society. One of the worthwhiie activities performed was the sponsoring of :1 dance after Scarlet and Grey Day. Since only a limited number of juniors and seniors are admitted, the competition for the in- vitation to join is keen. Mary Puma. Evangelism and fellowship are practiced by the members in their daily lives as well as in their club. Leadership training occurs in the club, since each meeting is, in fact, a little program com- plete with speaker, skits, announcements, and special music. YFC quiz team, under the leadership of Nancy Niesz, has had a successful season, having at- tained eight wins against two losses. The scores of each are to the side. Hashimoto, Ron Fobes on his way to a new record. Don Prince showing his high jump form. I34 Sprintcrs Poetry in motion, brute strength and ever increasing speed was the trade mark of our 1965 Deer Park T rack Team Led by Coach Griswold, the boys worked long and hard, grasping for that peak of per- fection. Records were broken and new heights attained as the effects of hard work became evident. R. Crawford, M. Leak, P. Raffel, P. Fairchild, BV Bohle, N. Asbury, D. Lambert I35 T Lohmeier, G. Vice, M. Talgo, O. Chapman, Mr. Miils, T. Dame, T. Buckley. Senior Netmen: Todd Lohmeier, Tom Dame, Gilbert Vice, Tom Buckley. l36 As cries of love pierced the air and the dull thud of ball against racquet sounded its protest, the Deer Park Tennis Team went through its rigorous practice. Spirit and determination was evident as the squad met competition eagerly. 1 1 R, Lingo, G. Walker, M. Raffel, Mr. Malay, T. Wenzel, B. Hague, K. Lombard, L. Crawford. The gym was decorated to resemble a Swiss watch factory with a gigantic clock suspended from the ceiling and smaller clocks on each table. The unusual colors, purple and pink, were carried out in a floral design above the clock. As the magic hour of twelve approached Queen Lynne McManus and King Dan Spinney were crowned.
