OUR COUNSELING DEPARTMENT MR. KELLY SMITH MR. KENNETH LAZURUS Counselor Counselor Deer Park High met with state standards and administrative aspiraiion This year and esfablished a full-iime sTudeni counseling program. This effective program is headed by our assistani principal and senior counselor, Miss Helen Williams, who is supported by The underclassman counselors, Mr. Kelly Smiih and Mr. Kenneth Lazurus. Mrs. Norma Ab? serves as full-Time secretary for The deparfmenf. These apt and efficient counselors not only guide students personally, bUT educaiionaliy and vocaiionaliy as well. When noi actually counseling, they are busy iesiing or siudying 1est results and compiling student records. The counselors work primarily wiTh the siudenis buT are available for conferences between 1each- ers and parents. The counselors offer advice, never judgment. They offer cooperative deliber- aTion, never commands. They listen with sympathy and suggest wiih intelligence and foresight Deer Park is proud of its new guidance department and of its three capabie counselors who understand youih and Their numerous problems in our modern socieiy.
