MR. EUGENE HAUGHEY Assistant Superintendent Mr. Eugene Haughey, assistant superintendent of Deer Park Schools, has educational background and teaching experience to aid him in his position as teaching supervisor and co-ordinator of curri- culum. Mr. Haughey attended Cedarville Normal College, Wilmington College, and did graduate work at Columbia University. Mr. Haughey is kept busy in his travels throughout the school system, but he never fails to have that needed appreciative word and that ready smile. MISS HELEN WILLIAMS Assistant Principal Miss Helen Williams, our assistant principal, also serves as head of the counseling department and senior counselor. Miss Williams, who has re- ceived degrees from Transylvania College, the Uni- versity of Kentucky, and Columbia University, is also the co-ordinator of all extracurricular activities and is the advisor for our Student Council. Miss Williams has over a quarter of a century of ex- perience in education and holds the respect and admiration of students and alumni. 23 Em. A

KENNETH LAZURUS Counselor Counselor Deer Park High met with state standards and administrative aspiraiion This year and esfablished a full-iime sTudeni counseling program. This effective program is headed by our assistani principal and senior counselor, Miss Helen Williams, who is supported by The underclassman counselors, Mr. Kelly Smiih and Mr. Kenneth Lazurus. Mrs. Norma Ab? serves as full-Time secretary for The deparfmenf. These apt and efficient counselors not only guide students personally, bUT educaiionaliy and vocaiionaliy as well. When noi actually counseling, they are busy iesiing or siudying 1est results and compiling student records. The counselors work primarily wiTh the siudenis buT are available for conferences between 1each- ers and parents. The counselors offer advice, never judgment. They offer cooperative deliber- aTion, never commands.
