Class History of '54 You are about to read the official review of the novel fbut not too novell class of '54, CHAPTER I On September 5, 1950, thirty-eight very green, frightened, and excited Freshmen entered the open doors of Deemack for an enchanting four years of high school life. Initiation was one of the days that few of the class looked forward to, as you can well imagine. But everyone pulled through the ordeal with little less than sore knees and hurt pride from kneeling to the Seniors. Feeling that they were full pledged high schoolers now, they elected officers for their opening year. The honored ones were: President, Wayne Kyleg Vice-Presi- dent, Packey Rushg Secretary-Treasurer, Norma Haerrg Student Council, Paul Miller and Shirley Laidig. Mrs. Sperry and Mr. Busing were the class sponsors. Naturally the volume would not be complete without a class party. A potluck supper and square dance was held in the gym on November 3, 1950. Everyone enjoyed themselves although there were quite a few that had trouble getting up and down the stairs the next day Shirley Daugherty left the class at the first of the year because of a long illness, and our President Wayne Kyle moved away Packey Rush the Vice President took on the responsibility of leading the Freshman Class the rest of the year CHAPTER I1 Feeling even more important than they had the year before because they re now classified as 'Silly Sophomores instead of 'Green Freshmen Officers were elected right away They were President Alberta Raymer, V1ce President Don Embry, and Secretary Treasurer, Roberta Cross Norma Haerr and Packey Rush were the student council representatives and the class sponsors were Miss Senska and Mr Fahsbender Of course party must be the first event in the Sophomore year so a wiener roast was held be hind the schoolhouse on October 12 1951 After stuffing themselves they decided they should lose a few of the pounds they had just put on Teachers and students split into three groups and went on a scavenger hunt Everyone had fun and no one suffered from being overweight Four students Joined the class during the course of the year but by the end of the year nine had left so by the time vacation rolled around there were only twenty nine students in the Sopho more clan CHAPTER III Well' Upperclassmen at last' Not quite the highest but almost' Wayne Kyle who returned at the start of the year was chosen as President of the 'Jolly Juniors Class Paul Miller was Vice President Shirley Winkler was Secretary and Yvonne Miller was Treasurer Since more authority had been given them they had three representatives for student council They were Packey Rush Don Embry, and Alberta Raymer Mrs Nixon and Mrs Denman were the very patient and helpful sponsors Since the Junior Senior Prom would be coming up the decision was made to try to make money instead of spending lt on parties The magazine campaign was launched and everyone worked hard More hard work was ahead of them in the form of selling at the home basketball games and giving a play The Junior Play was a mystery called It Happened At M1dn1ght but the only real mystery was how the cast was going to practice every night and get their assignments at the same time Another page the history of the class was the long expected class rings arriving The next section in the thlrd chapter of the class of '54 was the Junior Senior Prom After much debating the class decided on the Dutch theme CHAPTER IV At last the long awaited year is here! As we entered the doors at old Deemack High to begin the completion of the novel we felt quite proud to be called Seniors and are sure that we earned the title This is the exciting year and as we were to find out later it 1 also the flying year The Senior Play Mother Does The Talking was the first thing to mark off on r list as completed When time came for Senior pictures to be taken everv gi was sure that their p cture would be awful because they either cut their hair or c11dn't wore too much make up or not enough or more the wrong sweater or blouse When the pictures ar rived they ieally werer 't as bad as we exp ted After working very hard o rr' ke money by selling brewd and waving bake sale we arc lock ng forward to going Ol 1 clas 11p Although the novel s not quite finished it will be soon and we hope hat all the Cl aracters in thi novel make out a well on thei own as thcv did in thc I ook We are sure t a' the b vox will beconae the best seller fo years to cc ne . 1 1 ' I 1 ' 1 .
