She is Maira Vivas of Mexico City. She is the daughter of Manuel and Sylvia Vivas. Maira has a brother and a sister who live with her in her home in Mexico City. Maira, 14, arrived early in September and began her adventures here with us. Her main motivations for coming to this state were to learn the similarities and differences between our cultures and to understand and speak English. She now can understand us, most of the time; and we can understand her, well, most of the time also. Maira has enlightened us and delighted us with her stories of home life in Mexico City, and she always has a bright, shiny smile on her face, even early in the school year when she was having trouble knowing where to go and not quite understanding us when we told her. Maira will leave us 1 year older and with one year more of experiencing a very different type of life style. While at DCLA, she participated in many of our school activities, including Chorus and Basketball. Maira lives with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Meyer and Bobbi during her stay here. Thanks, Maira, for helping us to understand you and your country a little better. We hope you enjoyed your stay here with the Eagles.'’ Bobbi Meyer, Paula Walton, Liesa Schneeberger, Maira, Cassie Cless, Amy Skaggs, and Kim Blanton, posed for this picture during the first snowfall that Maira had ever seen. Maira and some of her friends help her to celebrate her 15th birthday, September 17, 1987. First time on ice skates on the school trip to the Williams Center in Tulsa, December 23,1987.
