We started our High School with an enrollment of twenty-one fresh- men full of enthusiasm and extreme ideas which our principal and sponsor, Mr. Shidler, immediately curbed and directed into the right channels, Two weeks after school started, we were initiated by the Seniors. Later in the year, a contest of buying government bonds, and stamps was held and our class won. As a result of this we were awarded a trip to Enid, All of us went through the packing plant and enjoyed a picnic lunch at Springs Park, where we had a lot of fun boating and then to the Army Air Field to see all kinds of airplanes. After going through the Air Base, we returned home to a hamburger fry at our class parents home, We entered our sophomore year with some new faces, those of Barbara McM rphy and Allen Wilson. During the year we lost several Classmates leaving our enrollment less than the previous year. Our sponsor, Mr. Nesselrode, entertained us with a Christmas party, which we all shall remember as the high light of our Sophomore year. When we came to school as Juniors, we recognized a new face amoung our old classmates. That of Wayne Hughes, We all worked hard in making the Jr, play, 'A Ready Made Familyn, the success that it was, although our sponsors decided us hopeless the night of dress rehearsal. Our sponsors, Mrs. Cooley and Mr. Earsom helped us in giving the Seniors a delightful and successful banquet, The Indian theme was carried out even at the dance where punch was served in a tepee. The music was heavenly and the dresses were lovely, Because of graduation, Lamont High will suffer greatly the loss of six football stars: Gene Fisher, Dick Gilbert, Bill Gilbert, Lyle Tebow, Bob Dorsett, and Eldon Stockton, All were first string players, They will also lose four basketball stars, Lyle Tebow, Gene Fisher, Jeannine Pierce, and Velva Arends. Our class will always be remembered as the class with four girls. In September, as Seniors we intered school with a new dignity be- fitting our classification. Our number was decreased to fourteen. Dur- ing the first semester our sponsors, Miss Moss and Mr. Higgins, gave us a party to which we invited the Jr. Class. We went out to our class parents home Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kugel, and enjoyed dancing, games, and refreshments of apples, do-nuts, mints, and cocoa. This year, our big task is publishing, nThe Red Deviln, with the purpose of raising money for our Sr, Trip, The Seniors presented as their Senior play nHere Comes Charlien, The Seniors left on their Senior Trip from the High School build- ing at 8:30 A.M. Friday, April 22, l9L+9, taking Highway 77 to Oklahoma. City where we enjoyed a nice lunch at Beverleys. We took in the'sights of the Historical Building and State Capital Building. We left Oklahoma City and passed through Chickasha on our way to Medicine Park. We then drove up Mt. Scott and enjoyed the beautiful scenery from this high altitude. We left Mt, Scott and stayed all night at the Craterville Dude Ranch. After enjoying a nice rest at the ranch we motored to Ard- more and from there to Lake Murray. We then went back to Ardmore for the night. The next morning we went to Turner Falls and then through Pauls Valley to Norman and viewed the 0, U, Campus. From their to Oklahoma City to visit the Zoo, after visiting the Zoo we started for home and arrived there at 3,00 A. M, we finished the remaining few weeks of school and enjoyed our last week of absence, We had our commencement exercises on May 26, and received our diplomas, This was the night for which we had all worked very hard and were very glad we had made the grade, We will always be grateful to our parents and teachers for making it possible for us to arrive at this junction of our educational career. ini CLASS WILL we the Senior Class of 'h9 of Lamont High School being of sound and disposing mind do leave these articles with many a sigh to the following people with hopes that they will use them along lifes hard journey. To our teachers, we leave the imposing mass of unusual and unvarified information which may be found in our accumu- lated test papers. If any of the teachers wish to write an encyclopedia using this information they may do so without paying royalties to our heirs. Dick Gilbert wills his ability to get along with eighth grade girls and to sleep in class to Milo Whitehead. To Ann Weaver, Nadean Kirby leaves her ability to flirt 'with all men.' Eldon Stockton leaves his ability to look through hotel transoms to Bernard Hobbs. Velva Arends wills her quietness, and bashfulness to Neva Jean McMurphy. To Joe Steiger, Bill Gilbert wills his ability to ride a motorcycle. Bryan Kugel leaves his ability to sway the feminine heart to Rex Tebow. To Gordon Heusel, Lyle Tebow bequeathes his ability to get along with the teachers, and to Jim Corbin he leaves his curly hair. Bob Dorsett leaves his slogan, Wall studying and no foolishnessn, to Peggy McConnell. George Bobbitt leaves his ability to type to Neva Jean McMurphy and his ability to get along with the Medford girls to Jerry Whiting. Bill Miller bequeathes his ability to get away with loafing to Paul Kirby. Gene Fisher wills his ability to play football to George Moore. James Webster leaves his Whizzer to Mirth Gilbert. Barbara McMurphy, typist for the annual, wills her job and typewriter to George Teachman. Jeannine Pierce leaves her feminine charms to Ruth McKee. Nadean Kirby gives her Model A Ford to Joella Pahl to do with as she likes. If there is any thing we have left out, you can have it. 1214 PROPHECY Miss Barbara McMurphy, a High Society women and also President of the Lady Ester Cosmetic Industry, is gossiping with Jeannine Pierce, Head of the Gant WDo-Something Con- struction Cbmpany.' The conversation goes as follows: Barbara--'Have you heard about the Great Geologist, Bryan Kugel, who has just got back from prospecting for oil on the moon and is head of the Boeing Space-Ship Co. and is making simply millions?' Jeannine--WYes, but did you hear about Billy Miller now known as Barney 0'field the second, winning the Bendix 600 mile race averaging 1000 miles an hour in his 1965 super Marien Ford. After being swormed by his many fans Billy was left to the friendly undertaker, Mr. George Bobbitt, but to his disgust he only got to rush him down to old Doc. Richard Gilbert. Dick has all the medical practice in Northern Okla- homa and is still just practicing. He may learn how someday. It was not until now that Miller realized how well off he was before. Just recently I've heard that Nadean has now worked up to the position of head Mechanic in the Robison Garage of Salt Fork, and Orie Dean is the best cook you ever saw.' Barbara--'Oh that reminds me Gene Fisher, the Second Red Grange, is now a famous roaring half back at Notre Dame and Lyle Tebow has taken over Admiral Halsey's Fleet and is en- joying his job of chasing the Russian Naval Force all over the Atlantic Ocean and is singing 'Fifteen Men On the Dead Man's Chest.W Jeannine--'Bob Dorsett, a radio Producer now owning several radio net works, has just finished producing his new production staring Bob Hope in 'Went With the Wind.W Barbara--'I heard over Bob Dorsett's radio program that James Webster is now farming 'all of the land North of the Salt Fork River, and that Bill Gilbert farms all ,the land South of the River. It is heard that they have started a civil fued that makes the fued between the Martins and the McCoys seem pleasant. They are fighting over the ownership of the river bottom of the Salt Fork River. It is the big- gest Civil War since the sheepmen ran the cattlemen off. Jeannine--'Why only yesterday I heard that the Stockton Shovel Detective Agency has just put Sam Spade and Jack Dalton out of the Detective business.' Barbara--'I read in the paper that Velva Arends has chased Wallace out with a rolling pin and is now running for President as a candidate for the Progressive Party.' Jeannine--'Well, I hear Dean calling. He probably wants me to Do-Something.' 55, clcemo 'gqke SA Q41 Qs 4, DICKENS fZf ,940 1 '91 Wim Ja DXW:C ,L O x JHHIUHS I 1 Mirth,Qi1ber9 Peggy McConnell Hfgiltfifl 'si til ,. , ,ef ,gn me 2 ,4 4 ag 5 XWQEUW' Lg, if ,293 deaf? b? 2 e 5333 e iiim Lloyd Falke siiaw v ewf. iHV?'Lwf , ' -.':z- 0 W 3?afL'!wxv5:S-'3 Anna Lee Prather - 1 . xxx :gisrvi I -A A'?5, ' ., wf3ef,,,SLg - 1 digg eem+www ff ii!! fi-15, ,. u , . At the present time it is composed of thirty-four girls, with Merline Meeks serving as accompanist, and Velva Arends acting as librarian. The Glee Club annually sponsors an original Christmas pageant, gives a spring concert, and participates in the Grant County, District, and Tri-State Music Festivals. LAMONT BAND The Lamont High School Band started the year l9L8-A9 with a membership of thirty-five. It has increased until at the present time it has fifty-eight members. Bearers of the American and school flags with their guard now lead the band. Six new instruments have been added to the band: two sousphones, two trombones, and two bell lyres. The new uniforms were recevied in November. The band started the year's activities by playing at the Kay County Fair in Blackwell. It marched at all of the football games and with the help of the beginners band played at most of the basketball games. It attended Alva's Homecoming Parade and the Christmas Parade at Ton- kawa. The band placed Superior in marching and Excellent in concert at the Grant County Festival at Medford. As this book goes to press the band is looking forward to these future activities, Marshall Festival, District at Tonkawa, Spring Concert and Music Program, and Tri State. Several solos are to be played at these programs. LAMONT F F A CHAPTER The Lamont Future Farmers of America Organization is in its second year after being disbanded from l9Ll to l9h7. The boys worked-everyday in preperation for the game at Braman. This game was a very important test for our light and inexperienced team. The Braman game was a hard fought game from start to finish. The score at the end was to 6 but the Lamont team won by first downs. The next game was with Wakita. Even though the team had a let down from the Braman game they won over Wakita with the score 20 to 6. The Pond Creek game was rather one sided. The Red Dgvils had plenty of confidence and beat the Bearcats 3 to O. Covington came to Lamont for the next game. The Red Devils were not highly keyed for this game and it was not until the second half that we realized that in order to win we would have to dig in and work. This we did and won by a score of 12 to O. It was not until the Marshall game, won by a score of 12 to O, that hope for an all victorious season was stired up in the team and the fans. Cresent game was supposed, to be a tough one but the Lamont boys won by 32 to O. The next game on the schedule was Medford--the most important game of the season. For the first time in eighteen years Lamont won over Medford with a score of 6 to O. We thought Newkirk would be a hard game but it turned out with Lamont winning 25 to O. - Deer Creek was the last game of the season. This game decided the Salt Fork Valley and District 6-C Conference. Both teams had been looking forward to the game for several days. We -were practicing in earnest to put the finishing touches to split second timing, contimplating the weak points of each opponet. It was these that could easily decide the game, as the sea- sonal record of each team proved that it was to be a very close contest. The game played under the 'new flood lights at Deer Creek ended with a score of 20 to 13 in favor of the Red Devils. 1214 l..,, dW Y Y FOOTBALL TEAM First row, left to right, Mr. Guy W.
