Since his arrival in I945. Mr. Earl Christ has won the respect and admiration of the student body and the community. At the pep-tests. we all have enjoyed his intormal talks. and especially his jokes and stories. We also have admired his outward calmness during the games. with nary a fist shaken at the referee, disputing a decision. Yes. Coach Christ is concluding his second year ot directing Deephaven athletics with many tine records. Under his leadership. the basketball team has copped its third straight Valley Conference championship. However, Mr. Christ has not confined his abili- ties to the school semester alone. Last summer he arranged a recreation program that really brought grand results. Besides maintaining five swimming beaches with their individual guards. he gave swimming lessons to children of all ages. He had several baseball teams and arranged tOr horseshoe tournaments. tennis matches. volleyball, and other sports for the grown-ups. In all. the en- tire project was a great success. E363 DICK LEE: Dick. a boy that any coach likes to have and hates to lose. has been a tine leader and one of the outstanding athletes in Deephaven his- tory. WALLY VAN GUILDER: Wally came a long way this year in both football and basketball. He is a hard worker who likes to play the game for all it's worth. DAVE FROYD: Up until the time ot his injury in football, Dave was really outstanding. I wish we'd have him another year. so that he could show his wares. JIM MOE: Jim was a steady player on both of- tense and defense. DON THOMPSON: Don used his size to advan- tage this year and did some outstanding work at tackle. HARRY HOLCOMB: Harry. our sophomore prize. should go a long way in athletics. MlLT TWEED: XVe used Milt mostly in defense. but he did his job and did it well. We're looking tor- warcl to next year. JIM LARSON: Jim was ready when we needed him. and he filled in very nicely when Dave was injured. PETE KIZER: Pete. for his size. played some bang-up ball for us at end. JlM SCHMlD: For the first year of calling signals off the T Jim did a very good job. In basketball he had a big job to till and did this in great style. JOHNNY REUBEN: Ruggedness is the word for Johnny. in both football and basketball. ARVIE DAHLBLOOM: Although Arvie played end for us in football, he really came into his own in basketball. DICK FlLLMORE: Dick started out on the B team in basketball and ended up on the first tive. We are looking torward to next year with Dick. GEORGE PlLKINGTON: George. along with Johnny. has done some good work for us as replace- ments in basketball. and next year should be a big one tor both of them. GEORGE HOEKSTRA: Hoek in his First year of football played a bang-up game at center. He is coming along fast in basketball. too. So to the seniors. I'll say good luck and wish we had them back: to the juniors. let's make next year the biggest and best. EARL CHRIST
