Our Past . . . We had our first idea of what we had ahead of us when we reported for our freshman year at D. H. 5. There were a lot of new faces among the thirty-tive classmates because of the tact that a large group came from Groveland. About the only great accomplishment was the tact that we were freshmen: however. the girls outdid themselves giving the faculty and Board of Education a dinner. and the chorus gave the operetta. The Outlaw King. In the tail of I944 we came back tor another year with only thirty in our class. We had a class sleigh ride which ended with a lot of black and blue marks. A few of our musical talents were in the operetta. Sunbonnet Girl. Mrs. Fowler put up with us for our sophomore year as home room teacher. As juniors we gave six dances starting with the Sept. Step and ending with the Blossom Time Ball. which we established as traditional. and the for. which we gave at the Columbia Heights Chalet. The chorus gave the operetta. Hollywood Bound. with Jo Finley as the lead. We mal Junior-Senior Prom.' cheered our exceptional basketball team on as they took the Valley Conterence title. district title. and went on to place second in the regional. During the last weeks of school we watched the excavations of the ground tor the new addi- tion with interest. The climax of our high school days was being seniors. When we came back after Christmas vacation. the new addition was finished and the crowded con- ditions were relieved. We struggled through the publication of the annual which was really a lot of tun. Senior skip day left one of the tondest memories with us. Bitter-sweet Anne was the operetta given by the chorus. In the way of act- ing. our class put on the annual senior class play. Ot course. the most important event of the year was graduation. During the year we went through all the usual worry of ordering graduation pictures. cards. and announcements; and on May 3! we took our final march to the stage and received those long-awaited di- plomas. Chorus and Band Under the supervision of Mr. Irving Gordon. 6 new member of the faculty this year. both Chorus and band have shown steady progress. The Chorus has many achievements to their credit this year. They participated in the annual Christ- mas program. entertained the P.T.A.. and presented the Operetta, Bitter Sweet Annel which is a two- act comedy. The officers of the chorus are: president. Jane Martin: vice president, Zoe Comer: secre- tary-treasurer. Beverley Wendling. Mr. Gordon not only directs the band but also gives individual lessons to the members. They gave a band concert in April: they played for peptests and many basketball games both here and at other schools. The band officers are: president. Jeanne Ellertson: vice president. Mary Fraser: secretary. Jean Penney: treasurer. Betty Barnes. The band grew this year. not only in membership, but also in ability. Just prior to the annual spring concert they received their very handsome new uniformsemaroon trousers with a gold stripe down the legs and gold battle jackets with maroon shoulder braid and oversea caps to match. In the future the band will be not only a fine sounding organization but also a fine looking one. ROW l: R. Wrcisncr. D. Milstroh 0.0 Bickford J. Holden F Bcrquist M. Wandrci D. MacCallum B. chdling.
