enzor Cfadd .Nwfory We the Sen1or Class of 1954 w1sh to express our deepest apprec1at1on to each of the faculty members who have gulded .ms through the past four years The1r 1nterest and concern has been a constant 1n.fluence to us m reach1ng for hlgher goals Our hzgh school careers are alrnost over and the events cannot be rel1ved they only remaln memorles never to be forgotten The fun of Good Ole In1t1at1on Day when we were recognized by the upper class men as part of Deep Creek Hlgh School was the f1rst event to begm our freshmen year Our sponsors were Mrs Porter Mrs Crawford M1ss Gustafson and Mr Affeldt There were no dances to g1ve that year for we were too busy acquaxntmg ourselves w1th trad1t1ons and procedures The Iumor Vars1ty team supported by a good cheer1ng squad f1rst brought us 1nto the lunellght by excellent records 1n football and basketball Mr Ph1l1ps m the leak1ng quonset hut and M1ss D1shman 111 the lunchroom help ed to make our Sophomore year more successful Our ma1n mterests were st1ll ath let1c but we gave an assembly program on Narcot1cs wh1ch was of mterest to every one The aud1ence Jomed 1n and we took three fourths of an hour more than allotted The f1rst day of our eleventh year found us 1n the new bu1ld1ng but half of us had the recreat1on room 3 B M1ss D1shman and Mr Ph1l1ps succeeded 1n persuadmg us from plannmg the J'un1or Sen1or Prom the f1rst of the school year They convmced us that f1rst we had to re1mburse our class treasury so we began work on makmg and sellmg programs at the football games One of the f1rst p1ctor1al programs 111 Deep Creek's H1story Orlglnated through our efforts The Rurltan Banquet was the f1rst real Lmportant undertakmg It requn-ed the efforts of the members of the class the1r mothers and our sponsors and only w1th these comb1ned efforts was It successful Plans for the J'un1or Sen1or began at last 1n February The d1fferent comm1ttees were chosen and the theme, M1dn1ght 1n Par1s w1th a s1lver E1fel Tower was de c1ded upon All of the hard work and tens1on was forgotten when the Sen1or faces re vealed how pleased they were the n1ght of the Prom Our Sen1or memor1es are probably the most Lmportant The week end that we spent 1n Washmgton D C w1th Mrs Moore our sponsor Mr Brown and Mr Sw1sher was the f1rst Sen1or Tr1p 1n several years The h1stor1cal s1tes the hotel and the Un1vers1ty of Maryland Alabama football game was new to some of us Even the mem bers of the class who had been before enjoyed the tr1p because we were alltogether Academ1cally athletlcally and scholast1cally our Sen1or Class brought acclalm to Deep Creek We had representatwes to appear on rad1o te1ev1s1on and at d1fferent pub11c affa1rs We had d1str1ct wmners 111 debatmg and 4 H Club work We had out standlng ProJect1on1st Club members Future Teachers Future Homemakers As s1stant L1brar1ans and letter men R1chard Ault one of our Senlors won the Group Two Basketball Scormg Champlonshlp Ordermg 1nv1tat1ons announcements and callmg cards proved to be very exc1t1.ng We were fully aware of the meanmg of graduat1on as we posed 1n caps and gowns for our class p1ctures The thoughts of h1gh school act1v1t1es com1ng to an end and re ce1v1ng d1plomas made us wonder 1f we were ready to accept the respons1b1l1t1es of young men and women It IS w1th h1gh hopes and wmde amb1t1ons that we shall strlve to ma1nta1n our places m a growmg democracy Sh1rley Brldges 8 5 0 a .
