O 'ZEMIO HE ANNUAL STAFF proudly presents this first edition of our High School annual. Deep Creek first became a high school in 1911, and held its ,first Commencement the same year. Those graduating were Thomas Whitehurst, Mattie Fleming, and Waldeman Weiss. It is the oldest of the present county high schools and numbers among its graduates veterans of two World Wars. Since 1911 a long line of graduates has passed through its doors into the world to become useful citizens-to be exact 434. Those lirst student bodies made many beginnings in sports, dramatics, literary events, improving high school facilities and ground, and scholarship. It was their job to lay the foundation for later students to build upon. This they did in spite of difficulties more insurmountable than we of later years imagine. Down through the years succeeding students have kept old activities going and pioneered in new fields of interest. This year for the first time a student body had undertaken the huge task of a School annual. It is just a small be- ginning but we feel it is an important one for our school. We hope that future students will continue having an annual and will find help from this one. If they do, then we feel that we have earned a place in the long line of student bodies since 1911. The staff, therefore, wishes to show its sincere appreciation to the older students for the many line things they did, and to the present student body for its loyal and willing cooperation in this undertaking by dedicating this first edition to all the student bodies both past and present.
