FODTBALL The 1985 Dedham Marauders started the season with a bang by beating Needham 26-6. They hit a mid-season slump after a series of injuries and bad outings. They came on strong at the end of the season, winning their last three games to end their league season at 4- 5. The season was highlighted by come from behind wins over 10th ranked Wellesley and Milton on Homecoming Day. Coach Walker L., GlRL'S SWIMMING ln only their second year as a team the 1985 Girls Varsity Swim Team emerged to shock the Bay State League. They posted a 6-7 record at the end ofthe season and had a number of swimmers qualify for sectionals. The 4x1OO relay team placed a fourth out of thirty-three teams at sectionals 4 the highest finish of any Dedham relay. Sophomore Marcia Cardinale represented the team at the State Finals and went on to capture lst place in the 100 yd. backstroke. Higlwlttghts of the season were beating North at the relay, destroying a til-then undefeated Needham, and hanging in close to an excellent Norwood team. The 1985-1986 season saw the rise of many excellent girl run- ners when no other indoor team had that number of girls. Also everybody had fun with Whip Cream and flour. Finishing the season at 21-1 the team lost a spirited match to league-champs Wellesley. Although they did finish second, the high point of the season was a very convincing win over arch-rivals Nor- wood 41-18. Another high point was the clean up at the con- ference meet with 5 out of 12 wrestlers taking first place in their weight class while two wrestlers took second place.
