We have tried to capture in the pages of this year- book a glimpse of our four years of high school, gone too soon. The friends we knew, where they went, what they were like, the faculty, the sports events, won or lost: the proms, plays, clubs, parties, and even the homework-all these we want to store in this treasure chest of memories, the yearbook. It will refresh happy thoughts of high school when our ages have doubled. tripled, and more. A picture, a phrase, a fad, all will serve as reminders of the carefree, Dad, may I take the car? days. Accordingly, a theme has been chosen to express these sentiments: We Will Have These Moments To Remember. PETERSO DEDICATIO We, the graduating class of l956, have the honor of dedicating this. ottt' Class hook. to a man who has exhibited many qualities t'llt,l6iiflllQQ him to us. Mr. Peterson is, first of all, a man who has shown a spirit of devoted coop- eration. constant and unwavering through the years. ,Ks chairman of the class advisors, he was ever-prepared to extend to us his kind attention and straight-front-theshoulder advice. As our chemistry and physics team-her he displayed to us, not only the intricacies of st-ienee liut also his own islet-Ii reverence for the works of the Creator, and espeeially those i-liurges wliieh Providence had given him to mould and educate. As a track coach, he niaiiaged to help us strengthen our liodies as well as our mindsfto see our true goals more Clearly. As our friend, he will ever lie fondly rememliered as l'Petf,-.ii the dear man with the friendly humor and wisdom. OUR PRINCIPAL Mr. Lawrence Brown. headmaster during our senior year at Dedham High School won profound respect and admiration from the pupils and teachers with his fine character, progressive ideas, orderly manner and sense of justice. Although we knew him for just a short while. it was plain that he was a person who could he depended upon to do a wonderful job in our high school. We want to say a sincere thank you? to Mr. Brown for everything he has done. kr K, wig. ln 1954 Mr. Scribner most capably filled the position of Superintendent of Schools after the interim appointment of Mr. Ralph A. Eaton. Since then he has worked tirelessly and unselfishly to promote more modern modes of education and to introduce a variety of extra-curricular activities. We are fortunate to have in our school system such a capable man. We say Thank you and wish him the greatest success in his efforts to better our educational programs. mindedness. ln deepest appreciation for the many years of service Joseph liyan gave to numerous classes of Dedham High School, we, the class of 1956 wish to express our gratitude. Mr. Ryanis good nature could never be forgotten by any one who worked with him. Mr. Thomas LeCeurn was an outstanding figure during our high school career. As assistant prin- cipal our senior year and as head of the com- mercial department during the other three years we all knew and liked him for his firmness and fair- NNN JfrUifwf1T1fiJ+a Ian-U-ar-y to De-cem-ber, We'H have MO-MENT5 TO REMEMBER etmiliymii ,+ivi1gel J. v 4. l l 9' The New Yeapg Eve we did thetown, the day we tore the goal-post down, ilftitiiie' M1 M at life N ' D' wxowxewti T0 aREMENl?E? Appropriately. we have chosen the now popular song, Moments to Remember as our theme. lts lyrics summarize these highspots: The new year's eve we did the townn-the parties and dances we attendedg The day we tore the goal post down,,- the athletic games and the fun we had participating in them and cheering for them. Joseph Resha was elected President over his opponents. Carol Sehio. Charles Harding and Sante Salvoni. Rohert Vllinston was elected Vice President for the third time. For the office of Secretary. Ce- leste Cheney won over jane Lyons hy a slim margin. lack Dewar was elected Treasurer. completing four years in that office. Shortly after elections came the first social event of our senior year. the Spook Spinll dance. followed hy our prom on December Oth. The gym was heautifully' decorated with silver hells. lvillowly snow drifts. and shim- mering lights carrying out our wintery theme Silver Bells. After the prom we danced until the wee hours of the morning at Coral Gables Night Club in Quincy. N tffz.-.f-5-1 - 2 O 1'-'.. -A ' X One of the highlights of the year was our senior play. Curtain Comg Llp. a hilarious comedy in three acts. Coached so ahly hy Miss Doris Grant. the play was a great suc- cess. As our high school days were nearing a close in May. the Junior Class held its re- ception for the seniors. Once again the gym was beautifully decorated. carrying out the theme Moonlight and Roses. After the program we dined and danced in the grand ballroom of the Sherry Biltmore Hotel in Boston. ' The month of June brought our Class Day. our class banquet. and finally our graduation from dear old Dedham High. We left the lot on Whiting avenue gladly but with that soft touch of sadness as the parade of memories of the happiest moments of youth passed before our mind's eye. ..THE OISY FU l rf-rl' . , F - 16-Graf' N Li:- of ei if 3' ' ' Y . p l ., M 1 E tv Q, ,QWJ -1 , as M . v 1 .-'Jr '- V, ... ,ld ,Us f ov fi l 141. 1 'JL ,jf f Q - Q W 5 2 V 3 '31 1 'foo s X ,.- fha, Q, ' ' , f , X fi' ' 1' , l' c fa, ff l,.-b31i'Z:i'ff7i, -.,-'fa V - .S i i fr' '?','?f 1'Y5 3 . 4 ,. --V' '5 A 1 gif y- V x,,. Holland, spent his senior year with us in Dedham High. He lived with Reverend Hynes of the Allan Congregational Church. We grew to know and like Hans for his friendliness and humor. He had many impressions of America that he expresses here in the following paragraphs. When our boat arrived in New York at 5 A.M., Sept. 13, 1955, I could see on the shore a steady flow of lights and Cars all beautifully colored. We were greatly im- pressed by this. HI came into D.H.S. and noticed the lunch and traffic systems which we don't have in Holland. I saw that there were, luckily in the minority, a lot of Lcatsf and that there weren't any Indians with feathers, that television and sports were popular, that people were very busy, that many students had or could drive a car, that girls are 'advancedf and that many kids like it better in the drug store thanat home. wfhe first weeks it was strange to be in a different world with no friends, no Ilutch spoken, but once I met the other students I felt at home. I think that the United States is a huge, fine land and I hope I can return here some dayf' N N x X I A 1 X X .-4 at ,,,..- ,,,..-- E Q J-I-,,,,,.,.,1- '4-' !V-p-'14,-A , 5 n,v,,...--- V, 4 AM'-W' ' , ff' , ,ff - -'-' Y !w,,,.,f-- 1 J V A-,-f-Y ' ' ' J 4 A 4 --' f 'gd ? 3 5 N 1 ,X wx xt I VX NS N xx ' X ,V I x f l V f Atl ,- X THE DAY WE TORE THE GOAL DOST DOWN f- s f Y f QQVQUL Q UNT' Rexx,-'X' - Sec . , ual' ,. Coach Pavlikowski, in his first year as head coach. did a marvelous job building up a green team. Under his tutelage the boys worked hard and showed a great deal of spirit. Sparked by Co-Captains Dunn and Holcomb, the Crimson set an impressive record in the beginning of the season, winning two, tieing one and dropping one 7-0 heart- breaker. But as luck would have it, the team was knocked off its feet with a barrage of mid-sea- son iniuries. With Terry Dunn sitting in the Norwood Hospital with appendicitis. the team lost a game to powerful Natick that cost the services of stellar back- field men Stogie Holcomb and Jack Massarelli. Holcomb later returned to action, carried a double load the rest of the sea- son, and played an outstanding game on Thanksgiving. The team as a whole came up with a ter- rific game against Norwood. They were hit hard by graduation and were left with only one returnee from last yearis Bay State Tourney finalists. It was not a completely lost cause. however. because many juniors gained valu- ahle varsity experience. The most exciting game of the season was probably Dedhamis last-minute victory over Walpole in a game played in the DHS gym. At the end of the season Capt. Clirnaxed by a very enjoyable and prosperous weekend trip to West Point, the 1955-1956 hockey season was considered a very successful one. The team didn,t win all its games but they played some very good ones. Highlighting the season were the victories over Malden High in the opener and the West Point Plebes in the final game. both being won by the score of 3-2. The Crimson turned in their best performance versus League Champion Malden Catholic. gaining a moral victory even though they lost the regular contest 2-1. Coach De Salvo's boys finished in fifth place in the Eastern Massachusetts league standing with a record of four wins and six losses. Jack Dewar was the season's high scorer with nine goals and ten assists for nineteen points. Stogie Holcomb was next with five goals and two assists for seven points and was followed by Ronny Fetter with two goals and four assists for six points. The Dedham defense was bolstered by Seniors Terry Dunn and Hatch Bullock. Pro- viding punch up front were Bob Sullivan and Tom Rabs.
