Good afternoon Board Members, Faculty and Administration, families, friends, parents, and especially my fellow classmates of the graduatins class of 1982. 71 It's been a long wait seniors, but today our graduation day finally catches up with us. In a moment we will receive our ticket to society and in doing so, leave behind us an important era of our lives. An era in which we were most impressionable to the shaping of society. An era in which we set the levels of our own ambitions and priorities. Thus, for many of us the mold is set. Those of us who accept and live today with responsibility and maturity will in essence maintain the same values and character throughout our entire lives. This is why our high school years have been so important. It has been a sort of halfway-house in which we began to make responsible decisions for ourselves and our future. Yet we were allowed to make mistakes; allowed to grow in a sheltered environment. But today we say goodbye to this era of our lives. No longer will we be working together as a group, but must survive in society as an individual. The days of doing school work together and playing on the same team are over. It is not |ust graduation that will divide us, but a difference in beliefs, morals, values, and character. In the future, not only may we not play on the same team, but may become bitter oppo- nents. By the making of our own responsible decisions and the will of God will this be done and our future and the future of the world be shaped. It is this realization that we, now as adults, must come to accept. Each of us should now enjoy each others company as the class of 1982, while we still share a common ground. Let us leave today, if with nothing else, the ability to learn. As valedictorian, I can tell you that during my twelve years at DeckerviKe Com- munity Schools, I have learned some things that I will never use and, because of availability, have not had the opportunity to learn some things I could have used in my future endeavors. However, I have gamed the ability to learn; the learning process in which I will continue to use for the rest of my We. At D.H.S. our class has been given a general background in which we have been able to evaluate our strengths and weaknesses, and have been able to make a decision about our individual careers accordingly. Some of us will go on to further our education Some will wish to settle into agriculture. Others will seek opportunities in some part of the job market; but no matter what we do we will all use the learning skills we have acquired these twelve years at D.H.S. throughout our lives. ■A th« time .o tetalf of the graduating class of 1982, I wish to do two things. One, to thank the Board of Education, Administration, and Faculty for their guidance and instillment of the educational process; parents for their love and support; and everyone here for showing their honor and recognition to us for this great achievement; and secondly, to bid you farewell.
