HANNEKE KLEIN HORSMAN Hanneke Klein Horsman is this year's exchange student from the Netherlands. Her hometown is called Ryssen, which has about 20,000 people living in it. Hanneke's father is a baker and her mother is a house- wife. Her education was a little different from the stan- dard American education; two years of Kindergarten, six years of basic school and five years of higher education. Her future plans aren't definite yet, but she feels her in- terest in animals might influence her choice of plans. Her home address, for anyone who would like to write to her after she returns home, is: Hanneke Klein Horsman Elsenerstraat 38 7461 DP Ryssen The Netherlands 86 OUR FRIEND FROM JAPAN Yoshinori Imai Yoshi Imai, one of our exchange students, came to Deckerville from Fuchu, Tokyo, Japan. He said that right now he just wants some time before going on to college. When he does go to college, he would like to come back to the United States for it. Back home, Yoshi attended an all-boy High School. Yoshi's father works with a Telephone Company and his mother is a housewife. He has one sister, Miko, who is 21, three years ago, she also was an exchange student, in Indiana. A special interest of Yoshi's is photography. He hopes to someday work with an International News Company. Next to photography, comes his favorite sport, soccer. Yoshi's familiar face is going to be missed by all when he goes home to Japan this summer. Galligan, Superintendent DECKERVnXE, MICHIGAN 48427 JAMES POPILEK Elementary Principal GARY BREDAHL Asst. High School Principal Special Education Director Dear Deckerville Students and Parents: Our school, this year, is home to 11 3 students for about seven hours a day. The school occupies a very small place among the 27,000 or so institutions of learning in the United States. It offers a program of study accreditated by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the University of Michigan. Although the school is small all the ingredients are here for a student to receive a good education - well trained faculty, selection of course offerings, well endowed library, many co-curricular activities. Career Center opportunities, good parental support with taxes and volunteer work, and last but by no means least, a fine student body. All the attributes are here to make our school one of the finest in Michigan's Thumb. The majority of our students do thoughtful initial program planning upon entrance to high school and consequently take advantage of all that school has to offer. They believe that education is an active process not a passive one, that one has to work, have pride in accomplishment and committment. The students then graduate and are able to enter advanced training or the world of work. On the other hand, too many of our students try to complete their high school years by seeking the easy way out without giving much thought to the future. When following this procedure, some students find that upon graduation, they do not have the proper courses or course sequences to enter college or take vocational training. Other students earn poor attendance records or fail to participate in co- curricular activities. The latter are sometimes obstacles when applying for a job. Hopefully, all of our students will, in the future, assume a more positive approach to education, take advantage of all that is available, plan ahead, and upon graduation, realize that they are well prepared for any thing they may want to tackle. All at school are willing and anxious to help in this regard. Sincerely, Superintendent of Schools Midwest Rubber Company Modern faculties for the manufacturing of rubber and plastic products for the automotive indus- try and other uses offers opportunities for employment during summer and during school year for high school Juniors Seniors MAVIS FURNITURE 125 S.
