DEDICATION We the members of the Eagle Star staff dedicate this annual to all tax- payers responsible for the Deckerville Community Schools. This is our way of expressing our appreciation for the buildings and fa- cilities that the taxpayers have pro- vided for our education. Eagle Star 1958 1959 The Deckerville community during the past ten years has pro- vided modern facilities for a thousand students. These were possible because of the combined efforts of twenty-one school districts. In 1950 the first of these new buildings was constructed. In 1952, 1955, and again in 1958, additional facilities were provided. Al- though buildings alone do not make a good program, they certain- ly have contributed materially to the continued growth of the com- munity. We are all proud of these tremendous improvements. These four years are perhaps the most important and memorable of our lives. Let's look back over them and recall some events that none of us shall ever forget. We started out os Freshmen by electing class officers to lead us through the year. We chose Roger Spencer as President, Marilvn Martin and James McVittie and Iris Baltzer for the Student Council. Our aavisors were Mr. Glover, Mr. Poole, and Mr. Moore. The big events of this year were our Freshman Initiation and a class party in the gym. The following September found us reunited to begin our Sophomore year. With us were five new members: David Albrecht, Hugh Allin, Kathleen Sal- mon, Jack Yost, and Tony Yost. Judy Greene, Lawrence Doerr, and Kenneth Brabant were those who failed to rejoin us. We elected David Albrecht as our President, Fred Leibinger as Vice-President, Jean Schuman as Secretary, Ted Gibbs as Treasurer, and Diana Nichol and Guy Jones as our members to the Student Council. Mr. Poole, Mr. Glover, and Mr. Swanson were our advisors for that year. We had the privilege of initiating the Freshmen that year. We had two class parties, both of which were held in the gym. In addition we had the pleasure of selecting our class rings. Our Junior year began in the usual way by choosing class officers. They were: President, Fred Leibinger; Vice-President, Keith Hardison; Secretary, Marilyn Martin; Treasurer, Iris Baltzer; Student Council, Mary Ellen O'Con- nell and Gail Cunningham. Our advisors were Mr. Poole, Mr. Glover, and Mr. Swanson. Those who left us in our Junior year were Hugh Allin, Charles Donaldson, Helen Hoenicke, Charles Main, Larry Maynard, Jean Monroe, Kath- leen Salmon, Duane Saska, Jack Yost, and Tony Yost. This was the busiest year yet. We had one class party in the gym. We earned some money for our Senior Trip by selling Christmas Cards. We also were thrilled to receive our class rings. Under the direction of Mrs. O'Connell, we proudly presented our Junior play, Finders Creepers . As a final highlight of our Junior year we sponsored the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. Music for the prom Sail Along Silver Moon , was supplied by the Collegiates. At last we as Seniors have arrived at that long awaited goal. For our final year we elected Fred Leibinger as President, Gail Cunningham as Vice- President, Janice Lamont as Secretary, Iris Baltzer as Treasurer, and Mary Jane Bungart and Roger Spencer as Student Council members. Our advisors were Mr. Leckrone, Mrs. Russell, and Mr. Glover. Minnie Abend left us and Jean Bitt- ner was our only new member. We had our final class party in the gym, and a good time was had by all who attended. With the assistance of Mr. and Mrs. Cook we presented our Senior Play, It's Great To Be Crazy . In addition we sold magazine subscriptions. The highlight of this year was our Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom, and we are still anxiously awaiting our graduation exercises. Then as each of us departs to go his separate way in life, we shall try to a- chieve every expectation of our class motto, Ever rowing; never drifting.
