DEDICATION To Mr. Poole, Tom , who has guided the destinies of the Deckerville Schools for so many years, who has guid- ed the lives of so many young people, who stands for the highest ideals in teaching and who has probably had contact with more students than any other Deckerville teacher, we affectionately dedicate this yearbook, the 1958 EAGLE FLASHES. YEARBOOK STAFF ROW 1: M. Rose, S- Fritch, C. Anderson, D. Nichol, A. Tanton, J. Griffin. ROW 2: M. Martin, G. Numan, J. Stringer, Adv. Mr. Leckrone, K. Stoutenburg, D. Albright, P. Decker, D. In the following pages are people, places, and things of our past year. Through words and pictures, we have sought to capture and preserve the memories of the year 1957-58. 1957 Eagle S tar 1958 The real purpose of the modern school system is to help each student to be- come the most useful citizen for the world of his future. It must provide the experiences, both in and out of the classroom, which will further this develop- ment. Fine manhood and womanhood are the results of hard work which has been well directed. We become good citizens when we learn to give self- direction to this work. The purpose of education is to foster self-direction toward this goal. Let's slip back a few years and relive some of these most cherished memories. As grown-up freshmen in September, 1954, we eagerly grabbed for every chance to make our next four years a huge success. Class officers were elected first with Dale Abbott as President; Dick Smith, Vice-President; Dick Stauffer, Secretary; Connie Reid, Treasurer; Phyllis Grough and Bill Lakatos as our Stu- dent Council members and our advisors were; Mrs. Cook, Mr. Kniivila, and Mr. West. We had two class parties; one at the park and the other in the gym. Dennis Dorman and Carl Clink joined us this year. The following September found us as one big class of graduated Freshmen to Sophomores. To start the year we elected Dennis Dorman as our leader with Donna Tait as his assistant. Karen Pettey kept notes and Beth Van Norman held our money. Our two Student Council members were Rena Graff and Har- old Stolicker. Class advisors were Mrs. Cook, Mr. West, and Mr. Regentin. To raise money for our class during the year we sold at games. We had two class parties. Our Junior year held many exciting promises for us. Carol Anderson was chosen as our President; Dale Noble, Vice-President; Donna Tait, Secretary; Connie Reid, Treasurer; Student-Council members, Sandra Lichter and Jim Griffin and class advisors Mrs. Cook, Miss Read, and Mr. West. The Junior-Senior Prom was our big deal for our year plus two class parties. We also were in charge of selling Christmas cards to the community. We presented our Jun- ior play March 29, 1957. Jack Harrison didn't return this year. Jim Salmon and LeRoy Splan joined us. At last we are Seniors! We once again elected class officers, but with wise thought. Dick Smith was our President with the help of Eugene Stolicker in his absence. Gayle Naumann was our Secretary and Connie Reid our Treas- urer. Our Student Council representatives were Carol Anderson and Bill Lakatos. Our Senior Class advisors were Miss Read, Mrs. Cook, Mr. Leckrone, and Mr. West. Highlights this year were the Senior play, November 8, 1957, the Jun- ior-Senior Prom, and a Box Social Class party. Those who did not return this year were Sandra Lichter, Kay Tanton, Dick Stauffer, and LeRoy Splan. Tom Sinneave, Butch Allin, Judy Morauski, Sandra Doan, and Gary Clark joined us this year. At last we are going to be out on our own, but Finished, Yet Beginning will be our daily reminder. Phineas Scroggs holds a mortgage on the farm and when he forecloses it, he sends Nancy to an orphange. Nancy runs away from the orphanage and lives with Gramp Withers. Gramps keeps her secretly but a snoopy neighbor, Mrs. Finnegan, finds out. Raggedy Nan then goes into a disguise as the hired man. Tommy Wyatt falls in love with Nancy. It was found out that old man Scroggs collected a large sum of money from the insurance company for Nancy's father's death, which rightly belonged to Nancy. Everything is finally straightened out and ended well. THE CAST Nancy (the orphan)............. Agatha (his daughter-in law) . Gramp Withers (elderly farmer) Florence (daughter)............
