Claw Hia tory As we end our four years of high school and look back over them and the many friends we've made, we realize that these have been four most important and unforgettable years in our lives. In 19'-P9, we began our high school career with a class of fifty-six curious little freshmen. Our advisors for the year were Mr. Jackson and Mr. Leckrone. Dale Schillings was elected president and led the class with the assistance of Jerry Fischer. Suzanne Blanchard was our secretary and Marion Lenk took care of our money. Roger Noble and Mary Ann Harter represented our class on the Student Council. We had no class parties this year. The highlight of the year was initiation day. Marion Lenk was elected leader of our class in the sophomore year. Vice President was Suzanne Blanchardg Secretary, Mary Ann Harter: Treasurer, Donna Cranna. Student Council members were Patrica Lawler and Eugene Wolf. Mr. Felt and Mr. Leckrone were our two able advisors. This year brought the long awaited day when we were to receive our class rings. We had two parties this year. Each one was held in the gym with dancing and ping-pong providing the entertainment. Those who did not return this year were Earl Browning, Doug. Kenny, Fred Abbott, Eugene Olson, B111 Eaton, Ronald Johnson, Eva Howard, and Harold Reid. This left us a class of forty-nine members., The highlights of our junior year were the Junior-Senior prom 'Blue Moon', for which Fr1tch's Orchestra provided the music, and the Junior Play Mama's Baby Bcy. We had one class party, which was a house party at Suzanne Blanchard's. We had several bake sales and sold cards and stationary. Five students Joined us--Reginald Dents, Jim Herrick, Earl Browning, Marie Green, and Bob Noble. Those who did not return this year were Marion Lenk, Donna Cranna, Gladys Manchester, Bob Morell, Ruth Noble, and Beverly Wintermute. Our officers for the Compliments of ARTIFICIAL BREEDERS ASSOCIATION Elmer Schnsidenbach, Inseminatcr year were: President, bhzgene Wolfg Vice President, Dale Deckerg Secretary, Mary Ann Our class Harterg Treasurer, Roger Kenny. representatives on the student council were Yvonne Morell, and Reginald Dents. Mr. Leckrone and Miss Aileen Stone were our ad- visors. In our senior year, Bob DeLong called the meetings with the assistance of Dale Decker. Suzanne Blanchard kept the records, and Joyce Williamson held our money. Pat Lawler and Ralph Dutcher were our student council members. Our advisors were Mr. Willard and Mr. Leckrone. Two Joined us this year and three others did not return. Those who joined us were: Joe Young and Don David- son: and those who left were Reginald Dcnts, Jim Herrick and Mary O'Mara. The Senior Play 'Headin' For the Hills' was presented u der the direction of Mrs. Clinton Bcstick. Our magazine sales went over well with everyone pitching in. We were proud of Mary Stringer who was high salesman for the campaign. Our senior pictures were received and traded among our friends. We sponsored a Valentine Dance with Cliff Lev1tt's orchestra for music. We had s good crowd and the profits were put in the treasury. Perhaps the biggest highlight of the year was the putting out of the Annual. Joyce Williamson was chosen for Editor in Chief and did a very fine Job. Everyone was looking forward to the senior trip to Chicago, Mackinaw Island, Detroit, and Holland., Michigan. Thus , we have completed our four years of high school memories and graduated as s class of 52 members. DIRECTOR Mrs. Clinton Bostiok Cornelia Heister and her sister Dorthea, are wealthy orphans whose only living relatives are a hillbilly family who run a general store in Lone Mule, Tennessee. Their father-'s will directs that the girls are to spend their sum- mers in Lone Mule or forfeit their share of the fortune. Cyrus Goolus, their uncle, wants to inherit the fortune for himself and trys to scare the girls away by showing them the worst of hillbilly living. They are not discouraged easily and Cyrus, is also engaged in trying to run from two women and the Widow Squiggins who want him to accompany one of them to the hoedown. Finally Cornelia begins to realize that maybe hillbilly life 1sn't so bad after all. Through experiences she discovers her uncle's designs on her money. Then she and Dot go all out for the hillbilly life and even show Cy a thlng or two. What happens to Uncle Cy when they get through with him should.n't happen to a dog! This is children, who are their children act are. Minnie, the McLeans appearance. keeping her from complicated by the fact that both have in their late teens. They decide to have five years younger than they actually maid insists on being surprised at Junior Mrs. McLean has a difficult time giving the plot away. Bz-about. Varsity Track ' The track team for the year 1952 had s successful season. Some track records were broken. The senior class of 1952 was the winner of the interolass tournament. They were followed closely by the senior class of 1953. The mid-thumb league meet was held at Cz-oswell with the following schools compet- ing: Harlette, North Branch, Croswell, San- dusky, Yale, and Deckerville. has best performance was the high Jump with Anderson, DeLong, Dobson: tying' for first place at the height of 5' 6 . Croswell was the winner of the meet followed by Yale, Deokerville, Mar- lette, North Branch, and Sandusky. Compliments of b The tri-school meet was held at Bad Axe. The schools competing were: Bad Axe, Deckex-ville, and Ubly. Bad Axe won followed closely by Declcerville. Deokerville entered ten l8ll in the Regional meet in which approximately twenty class C schools were competing. Baseball Team Due to the lack of experience, the 1952 baseball season was not very success- ful. The Eagles failed to win any games. Deckerville 6 - Croswell 12 Until the first game at Croswell the boys had not played on an open field. In the first inning the Croswell team took a commanding lead and went ontowin 12 to 6. Deokerville 1 - Sandusky 9 The second game of the season was played on the Deokerville field, at which time the Sandusky Red Skins downed the Eagles by the score of 9 to 1. Max Kreg- get pitched a three hitter for Sandusky. Deckerville 7 - Yale 15 The third game of the season placed the Eagles against a strong Yale team. The game was close for three hmings then the Bulldogs pulled away to a 15 to 7 win. Deckerville 6 - North Branch 20 The next game was played at Norm Branch. North Branch boys downed the Eagles by the score of 21+ to 6. The high- light of this game was a home run by Dale Pearson. Decker-ville 2 - Marlette 6- The last game of the season was played with the Harlette Raiders. This game was tied 1 to l until the fifth inning then the Raiders collected five runs to go ahead and win 6 to 2. Alfred Garza caught a pass from Roger Noble for one touchdown and the other touch- down was made by Bob Belong on an end run. Deekerville 6 - Elkton 7 In the first league game of the season, the Eagles were beaten by Elkton 7-6. It was in the fourth quarter on recovering an Eagle fumble that the Elkton team was able to make e touchdown. If the Eagles had won this game they would have ended in first place. Deokerville 6 - Harbor Beach 13 The Eagles lost to a hard fighting team at Harbor Beach. Eugene Wolf scored in the fourth quarter. Deokerville 13 - Sebewaing 7 The Eagles won their first game in three seasons as Sebewaing found tough going in the third quarter. Bob DeLong scored in the first quarter, and Stuart Tanton made the extra point. Alfred Garza scored in the third quarter. Deokerville 41 - Unionville 0 In the only day game of the season, the Eagles had a field day. Almost everyone had an opportunity to make a touchdown. Deokervllle 6 - Ubly 6 One of the most exciting games played during the season ended in a tie. Bob DeLong scored the only touchdown for the Eagles. I Deokervllle 18 - Pigeon 6 The Eagles' win over Pigeon put them in second place, and one of the most successful seasons in many years. Bob DeLong scored twice, once on an interception, and the other on a plunge through the line. Alfred Garza scored. the other touchdown on a pass from Dale Schillings. These boys worked very hard throughout the season and proved to the entire league that they had what it took to make the all-conference team. These boys did outstanding work in Dale Foster thelr positions throughout the season. Deokervllle I-P3 - Carsonville 25 This game was also played during the afternoon in the Deckerville gym. All the girls had a chance to play, but they had to work hard to keep in the lead. Clbueut E Trigger The membership of the chorus this year was approximately thirty girls. Losses due to graduating of the senior members started the year off with a rather slow start. The chorus sang at the Christmas Concert and later in the season at the Bend and Choral Concert. In April the chorus played hostess to the annual Sanilac County Vocal Festival. This occasion brought together all the choruses in Sanilac County for a day. Hr. Bernard Stone served as adjudicator. The chorus has done a splendid job in rendering e contribution to the school. The student secretaries this year are Wanda Ritchie and Mary Stringer. Each girl receives a full credit for working in the office two periods a dey., Jeanette Williamson also helps one period each dey. The band did many colorful and comical rou- tines during the half-time of all home games. With regret the 'haul ended their marching season at the Spex-ry's Santa Claus Parade held in Port Huron. This festival consisted of all the 'bends in the county and each was judged by a Judioator. In the eve- ning a concert was held in the Yale gn in which au :ne bends participated. The meals are well-balanced and consist of milk, hot dish, sandwich, and dessert. The cat- eteria usually serves 275 lunches a day. The cafeteria girls receive pay and their meals according to the number of days they work a leak. President Dale Decker led the Deckerville F.F.A. in one of its most active years. Help- ing him were Eugene Wolf, Vice President: Dale Foster, Secretaryg Roger Kenny, Treasurer, Gerald Rich, Reporter, Stuart Tanton, Sentinelg and Mr. Leokrone, Advisor. We have a total of 78 members, 66 in school and 12 active grad- uates. Nine boys have applied for State Farmer degrees this year. One of the first activities of the year was our third annual Sanilac County Tractor Field Day. As usual there was a huge crowd, with special interest in the plowing and pull- ing contests. Following this was our community Fair, which included displays of work of all grades and departments of the school, as well as all types of farm and kitchen products. Also during October we held our initiation for geen hands, sent Eugene Wolf and Bob DeLong as our representatives to the National F.F,A, vention, and started our scrap drive. during this time we set up our Program of for the entire year. During November we canvassed for C R 0 P, and concluded our electrification contest, which was won by Melvin Lamont. Also we par- ticipated in the annual Beet Show and won a number of prizes. The Bean Show was held in our school for the entire county, and resulted in Deckerville winning the BEST CHAPTER award. Con- Also work December is the annual summarization of reports, and we found that our main lines oi endeavor paralleled very closely those of the county, with major emphasis on dalrying, hay and grain, and beef and beans. We had a total of 87 projects in dairying. For our entire rogram we realized a net profit of 525,394-72. During January and February, in addition to our regular class work, we prepared a team in Parliamentary Law for the district con- tests, which were held in Deckerville this year, we received a silver award for this endeavor. We were represented at the State Convention by two delegates and the boys who won the State Farmer degree. As soon as the land is suitable for work- ing we are out on our F.F.A. farm, where we have in wheat and oats. This is the second year of operation. During the year, in addi- tion to our study of agriculture in classes, we also conduct a continuous milk-test and sanitation program, mastltls-control program, and make available to local farmers dehorners, elastrators, germination tests and reports soil analyses, safety and electrical check- ups, pruning and grafting service, as well as do some landscape gardening and tree planting.
