Student Council Helps Make a Good School Better The Student Council with its sole objective being that of making Decatur High School a better school began having weekly meetings as soon as it was possible last fall. Before the council could begin on its job of bettering the school it was necessarv to elect the following officers: president, Steve Edwards; vice-presi¬ dent, Bill Jacobs; secretary, Barbara Burk. In order to make D.H.S. a cleaner school the council voted t o continue the hall check from the previous year. Each day a survey was made OFFICERS Barbara Burk, secy.; Steve Edwards, pres.; Amos Ketchum, faculty advisor; Bill Jacobs, vice-president. STUDENT COUNCIL Row 1: Paula Strickler, Jean Finlayson, Bill Jacobs, Pat Franklin, Steve Edwards, Ann Kocher, Cindy Collier. Row 2: A1 Townsend, Jack Dailey, Lois Gerke, Bar¬ bara Burk, Jim Gay, Benny Kolter. Row 3: Max Eichenauer, Jane Bedwell, Judy Brod- beck, Taya Erickson, Ed Nelson, Tom Grabill, James Martin, Rita Norquest. of all three floors with the winning hall being announced at the end of each week. One of the council’s main activities was that of reducing the number of persons tardy each day. This situation was partially remedied by the posting of a graph each week showing the number of tardinesses per class. The Student Council, although still compara¬ tively young, is growing in stature every year with the last year certainly being no exception.

I The Ravelings Staff Guides Your Thoughts Space-Ward Themes around which to build a book should be thought provoking as well as entertaining, so we have fixed on the idea of space. We can¬ not but wonder what it would be like to wander on the moon, or to pay a visit to Venus, or to take a jaunt to Jupiter. Perhaps some one from this school will develop sufficient interest to prepare himself to become one day an inter¬ planetary traveler; to bring back to us stories of the men of Mars, or solid materials to prove the composition of the moon. Even though this drawing of attention to the great space about us, or as the poet puts it “The infinite meadows of heaven, may not lead any of you to become a traveler to far distant places, we hope the application here is adept enough to catch your attention and arouse a train of thought towards the “Wide Blue Yonder.” We hope you will enjoy this book as much as we have enjoyed developing it, and arranging it for you.
