In January, we were privileged to witness a naturalization ceremony at the Courthouse as part of our Civics and Sociology classes. On February 1.3, we visited the State House at Indianapolis. This trip was verv educational and enjoyable. May 17 meant the Junior-Senior Prom. The juniors did a wonderful job of planning and decorating around the theme, Calypso. ' They made the Prom something that all the seniors will remember. Our Baccalaureate services were held on the following Sunday. Finally May 2.3 and the big night toward which all of us had been working. Commence- ment, arrived. We heard a challenging speech by Rev. Robert B. Pierce, Minister of the Broad- way Methodist Church, Indianapolis, Indiana. Mr. Helm presented the seniors with their di- plomas. The Commencement dance followed after graduation. The D Club is made up of a group of conscientious athletes whose activities proved successful this year due to that attitude. Their first order of business was the election of the following officers: president, Paul Schmidt; vice-president. Bob Shraluka; secretary, Larry Moses. As had been the custom from previous years, hall check committees were assigned, and each week the winning hall was announced. The ne.xt project was the most important of the vear. A citizenship committee was appointed which drew up a code of ethics called Our Code, which suggested a plan of action to be taken to help the code be used to its best advantage. The Student Council then presented Our Code, which was unanimously accepted bv the students. The Student Coimcil was once again ' erv successful during this last vear, thus continuing to raise its importance and efficiency, and setting a precedent for the ensuing years. Editor For years it has been the privilege of each Ravehngs staff to present to the pupils and fac- ulty of D.H.S. the book of the year. The staff this year has indeed enjoyed its privilege to collect in written and pictorial form, edit, and present to the readers of this book, the most interesting events of our High School this year. As each staff has had its own peculiar prob- lems to solve, so this year we have met certain difficulties. All these must be overcome and a time schedule maintained. All difficulties are forgotten, however, in just pride for an attained goal. In that sense we, with justifiable pride, take great pleasure in presenting to you The Ravelings of 1957. Money making activities this ' ear included dances at the Decatur Youth and Community Center. In judging contests the chapter usually participates in three contests— land judging, crop judging and live- stock judging. The Decatur team came out 10th in a group of 21 teams participating in the land judging contest. One of them is giving typing awards to those students who have earned them. For a 35- word award, you can obtain a certificate. For the 40- 50-60-70, you can win a pin. We are hoping this year there will be more awards won than ever in the past. The second project is preparing and printing the Gabfest.
