BROWN FACULTY IS BACKBONE OF DECATUR HIGH There are few higher honors than to be known as a teacher. Decatur High students have been inspired by them to set their goals high. These teachers have spent much of their valuable time in helping students in many different ways. They were the ones who spent many of their vacation days in arranging schedules and curriculag they were the ones who were called upon to help solve the problems that arose when school started. Difliculties, hard work, and long hours of meetings confronted them throughout the year. In order to make this school an efhcient and happy one, the faculty was always ready to lend a helping hand in any Way possible. They became sponsors of clubs and advisors of councils. They formed various committees to bring about smoother oper- ation. All this they did in addition to their regular duties. We cannot forget that we owe our teachers a lasting debt of grati- tude. We started our last year at Decatur With our usual spirit and determination and captured second place in Stunt Night. Senior boys gave that extra boost to the school spirit by being cheerlead- ers at some of our important football games. Some of the other boys in our class were the leaders of the football team which became the North Georgia Champs and took second honors in the state. We enjoyed a Christmas dance with a Polynesian theme. The Senior Fashion Show, Variety Show, and the Senior Play added much to our memo- ries of Decatur. Before we could realize it, we found ourselves in the flurry of final exams, senior banquet, and Bac- calaureate. A busy and rewarding year came to an end with the graduation exercises and our last high school dance. Anybody wont to dance? WWW BOB ALLEN 4? This year the Writers Club which has previously been connected with the Scribbler, was reorganized as a separate organization. Reeder Glass scored on a fifteen-yard pass from Wade Parks, and, as the game neared the end, the Bulldogs were almost able to score on another toss. XVade Parks and Billy Lee scored on one- and four-yard runs respectively, Travis scored the other marker on a I4-yard Vfade Parks pass. Decaturites outstanding on defense were joe Ansley, Robert Powell and Tommy Lucas. DECATUR FINDS GRIFFIN TOUGH, LOSES 21-14 After gaining a touchdown, the Decaturites found the Griffin team hard to beat. Two blocked punts were very costly to the Bulldogs. Billy Lee made the first touchdown with Bobby Delioor adding the final tally. Doug McAfee added the two placements. Rayfield, N Kenton Cheerleaders Credited for Fine School Spirit The Decatur High School cheerlead- ers were very instrumental in helping keep the school spirit at a high ebb this year. They added the needed spark to keep the student body cheering our teams on to victory. Early in July the cheerleaders began practicing both new and old cheers in addition to painting spirit-building posters. The highlight of this year was the annual trip to Chattanooga Tennessee for the Southern Interscho lastic Golf Tournament Boys Swimming Team Increases in Popularity Decatur Highs svummmg team is rapidly growing to be one of the largest 1n the state The bows swim ming team this year has had a very successful season Under the mstruc tion of Coach Opal 'vloon the boys hate done well in both dning and svummmg and as a result have offered keen competition to all of the other schools in the area The hard practice that they put in sex eral nights a week proxed to be fruitful This is evi denced by the fine record that the team made this season Aquamaids Reap Awards The girls swimming team ably coached by O H Moon has collected several honors this wear which include a second place trophy in the State meet a second in the Metropolitan meet and a fifth in the Southeastern meet In an invitational meet between Athens and Decatur the girls topped Athens 53 to 38 Leading Decatur with nrsts were Marilsn Bingham in dn ing and Captain Kat Erdman 1n the 200 yard freestyle Other girls placed in numerous ex ents to boost the team score Decatur also sent representatix es to the A A U meets at Athens 'Vfacon and Columbus P 7 . l I . i : . .7 .
