The day has come when we-the Class of 1947-will be Seniors. The day that we all have looked forward to for so many years. The day that we thought would never come is here. In six schools scattered over Decatur, almost twelve years ago frightened and bewildered children donned their new school shoes and began the long journey through that fascinating thing called school',. Now as we look back it seems that only yesterday we were barefoot, playing childish games and getting into little scraps. Then in September, 1940, we all met for the first time and as time has gone by we have welcomed into our class new members and said goodbye to others. Our outstanding activity in junior high school was the presentation of our play When We Were Young', directed by Miss Mary Augusta Bibb. In September, 1943, we entered that aim of life-Decatur Senior High School. Through our sophomore and junior years we were a good class. We excelled all past records of junior class magazine sales and helped sell war and Victory Bonds. To climax our year we had the annual junior-senior banquet. And now to be seniors in the fall-it just doesn't seem possible! ,wp inacc- ' arm , v-1' we A ,nnoul Q ki 'nu 'T Q- 8 Q, . g an -- U12 'PPV T' ' 1'-L-a W1 ll 'Els' , , Hana than nun, tum mai 'anne v. in-no Y ,sf fi'f r W,, .. +1 ,ie . iff , E ri T-1 'VLQFIJ .F 1 ' it it -ggliinqg-L?-..:,:Q:L' l as :Q-f 1 r .. i S , T . How strange it seemed to each of us-boys and girls learning to read, write, and count in the grammer schools of the city. After years of studying, we became the proud graduating class of grammer school. We had our first class play that sixth grade year, and felt so big presenting it on the stage of Riverside High School. Our grammer school days were soon brought to a happy end when all of the sixth grade groups of the city united in one large graduating exercise. The following September we were brought together in a class in junior high school. How different it was to have to follow monitors' directions and abide by the student councils' rules. We settled down to work for three years. In those years we all had many experiences we shall never forget. NX'hile in junior high, we contributed our part to the war effort. We not only bought and sold XVar Stamps and Bonds but we also helped in scrap paper drives, scrap metal drives and clothing drives, exceeding our quota each time. XVe published a bi-weekly paper The Junior News and our class presented a play Spring Fever . At last graduation day came. After three years of hard work we proudly accepted our diplomas. Then we became Sophomores in Decatur Senior High School. With the help of the faculty, juniors and seniors, we soon caught on to the routine of the school. Now, as a class, we are preparing ourselves for the forward steps we shall have to take when we will be engaged in the activities and assume the responsibilities awaiting us as juniors and seniors.
