Sponsor The first senior activity of T942 was the annual Curtis Magazine Campaign. Work- ing with unusual interest under the direction of the Senior Three sponsor, Mrs. VV. J. Brown, the class set a new record for magazine earnings, For the duration of the campaign the four senior home rooms were divided into contesting factions, and the winning room, Miss Pope's, was entertained with a picnic and party by the other three rooms. In rapid succession the class was organized, the rings selected, the annual staff elected and invitations chosen, Before Christmas, work was begun on the school annual, and it was sent to press on February 6, 3:30 A. M. In March, the senior play, No Foolin'l was presented. The rest of the school year was a treadmill of events directed toward graduation The measurements were taken for caps and gowns, the invitations sent, and the prepara- tions for class night and graduation made. On June l, graduation will end a highly successful school year-we hope! fit K ., u ly R sql l 'ax ' 11. g Ci l' 'g .MW WFT' 'ae 1,0 ...-..- .. Louxsionc , Rhode Islond E3 Vx? tw 'Q N SENICDR lll HISTGPY ln nineteen hundred twenty-foui and twenty-five most of us were born and approximately one hun- dred homes were made happy. In nineteen hundred forty-two when we graduated and set out for our- selves, one hundred homes were ance more inton- cated with icy. In T930 we all packed off to school. Of course we were not attending the same school then, but we were heading in the same direction. With the aid of Miss Houston, LaFayette: Miss Myrtle Graves, now Mrs, Jack Williamson, Gordon, Miss Frances Burt, now Mrs Jim Ryan, Joe Wheeler, Mrs. Elisha Weaver, First Ward. Mrs. Jean Stone, Second Ward, Mrs. Fannie Blackwell, Gcraon, and, Miss Irene Clem, Third Vvard, we conquered the first year and rushed on through the remaining five of grammar school. Then, together for the first time, we sat on the stage at Decatur Senior High School as Professor Benson distributed our diplomas. From that day we worked, learned, and grew together. The three years of Junior High passed as quickly as the others, but we had sufficient time to begin finding ourselves. Our social and athletic wheels began to revolve about our school life and as the days passed, we looked with longing eyes to- ward Senior High School. Then came our second graduation day. The same names were read from the certificates, but longer legged boys and girls went forward to re- ceive them. Finally, almost suddenly, we were Sophomores. That year we were joined by several people coming from other schools in different towns, and by some whose progress had been checked by misfortune. We elected Miss Elizabeth Cochran as our Spon- sor, and the Sophomore officers were as follows. Harold Lichtenstein, President, Schuyler Pryor, Vice- President, Avery Littrell, Secretary, Vaughan Francis, Treasurer. As Juniors we proved our genius for working to- gether and from then on exhibited it in everything we undertook. That year we broke the magazine sales record for Junior classes, and our play, Million Dollar Joke, was one of the most successful in school history. The Junior-Senior Banquet, the crowning event of the year, was a novel takeoff on the typical- ly American Hill Billy gathering in a corn swept barn. Mrs. Willard J. Brown was elected Junior Class Sponsor, and our officers were: Gregg Cole- man, President, Jacqueline Johnson, First Vice-Presi- dent, Tom Swatzell, Second Vice-President, Frances Hodges, Secretary, Carolyn Murphree, Treasurer, and James Holesapple, Reporter. We began our Senior year by electing Mrs. Brown as our sponsor, and under her direction we broke the all time Decatur High magazine sales record. During the year we enioyed numerous attractive parties, and presented our last class play, No Foolin'l An unusual class night presentation was climaxed by our June l graduation. Joining us for our Senior year was Helen McMillan ci talented artist, who was elected Assistant Art Editor of our annual. Oklahoma's loss was our gain, for her services were indispensable. The Senior officers were: Gregg Coleman, Presi- dent, Edmond Garrett, Vice-President, Margaret Tim- berlake, Secretary, Carolyn Murphree, Treasurer and Darrow Peebles, Reporter.
