K, Davis Absent: Miss Mabel Scheiderer. Eight faculty members who have been given released time to counsel students, com- prise the guidance department. Sophomore Counselors are Mr. W. K. Davis, Miss Marie Weber, and Miss Elizabeth Connard, lunior Counselors are Miss Mabel Scheiderer, Mrs. Ruth Pigott, and Mr. Gansel Bennett. Upon entering high school, students are assigned to a counselor who advises the student during his sophomore and junior years. Through individual conferences, the coun- selor plans the students program, making changes when it seems wise or continuing with a program that seems best for him. While educational planning comprises much of the counselors time, he also assists students in home problems, job finding, and personal prob- lems of any nature. In group work, the guidance department plans orientation programs for incoming stu- dents, They are helped in plans for registra- tion, and with simple rules and regulations pertaining to first days of school. College Day and Vocational lnterest Day are other functions of the department, held once each year. Senior Counselors, Miss Mary Carroll and Miss Margery Prestley, receive the students for their final year in high school, They make out senior elections, check each senior's credits, investigate failures and incompletes, and Warn students and parents of the failures. Miss Carroll and Miss Prestley also average grades for National Honor Society, Valedic- torian, Salutatorian and Orator. Diploma lists are prepared and checked, announcements and caps and gowns ordered. They make ar- rangements for class day, baccalaureate, and commencement, and make recommendations for college and work scholarships. 44212
