1-czfiislmeefmmimuw rnfgzmc-sliel Tabor, Ackerman, Higman, Austin The Review Story Contest The twenty-sixth annual prize story contest of the Decatur Be- view was niost unusual inasmuch as the first prize was awarded to a sophoinore, Miss Josephine Higniang the second prize to a junior, Miss Ruth Ackerniang the third prize to a senior, J. B. Austin: and the fourth prize to a post-graduate, Miss Sydney Tabor. The prize stories were short, simple, narratives, written in good style. The purpose of this animal contest is to encourage the use of correct English and to give the students a chance to develop their literary talent. Many of the uaines on the honor role were those of underclassinen, a fact which indicates that there will be a keen coin- petition of experienced writers in the next contest. A singular feature of the contest was the fact that a special prize was offered to any prize winner this year who had won a prize in foriner years. This prize was taken by the senior prize-winner. Fifty selections of the better known eoniposers were ehosen for presentation to the students eonipeting in the contest. Many opportunities were offered the Coin- petitors to hear these selections. Special programs were given in the auditoriinng besides this, the player piano and the vietrola were ae- eessible to the students. Froni a preliniinary contest, there were seventy-tive who qualilied tor the finals. The large nuniber of students sueeesstul in the prelini- inary trials showed that a. lively interest was taken. The tinal contest was held Deeeinber 9. The nunibers were given by the best of Deeatur's niusieal talent. The winners were: Anna- belle Dey, tirst: Edna Ashenfelter. second: Stanley Vaill, third. The prizes were ten, tive and three dollars respectively. There were also ten one dollar prizes. Miss Louise Bear was responsible in a large ineasure for the suc- eess of this contest. It was at her suggestion that it was first adopted in 1920. It is hoped that this new activity will continue, and that even greater interest in it will be shown.
