A EW BEGINNING The Decatur School Bands, under the direction of Mr. Mike Kinsey have grown immensely, not only in number, but in musical capacity as well. Starting the year off with a Fall Concert, the Band attended Regional Contest at Fayetteville in the Spring and returned with a good rating, which is what all bands try to achieve, if they can and then possibly make the trip to Hot Springs where State Contest Trials are held. They all work together as one team and try their best to keep up the school spirit not only at the ball games but at school as well. Though cheering is rough going at times, their lively spirits are what make winning a ballgame an all out effort. Together and as individuals they are what make the games worth winning to the guysg and just a part of tomorrow's beginning. Coached by Head Coach Brown and Assistant Coach Wilkins, the Bulldogs were second in Ozark Conference standings, missing a place in the state berth by only one game - that crucial game with Farmington. Coach Brown said that the gridiron will come back with a greater team in the '73-'74 season and we' re sure he's the one to do it. The goal for next year is, of course, state. There was great enthusiasm, as everyone was looking forward to the game, lst prize went to the Sophomores' float for Superdogs '72, and 2nd prize to the Juniors for Sandwich the Blackhawks. The Seniors and 8th grade came up with honorable mention by the judges. That night the Superdogs poured it on the Pea Ridge Blackhawks to win 48-0. Without the cheer- leaders or fans, the ball teams would lack much of their drive to win. They win for their school to show their spirit and their fine sportsmanship. The same is true of school pride. If there is no pride in our school, many will lose the interest of even participating in activities. So to show our pride there are pep assemblies once in a while, there are honor assemblies, and also programs for the students. School pride is at its best at DHS.
