LIEUTENANT COMMANDER GORDON L. THORPE USN EXECUTIVE OFFICER Lieutenant Commander Gordon L. THORPE commenced his Navy career in October 1956, graduating that year from Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island, Class Twenty Eight. He served in USS INFLICT CMSO1456J from 1956 to 1958 as First Lieutenant and Operations Officer. From 1958 to 1960 he was Officer in Charge of the Inshore Minesweeper CAPE CMSI-233 from 1960 to 1962 he was Engineer Officer in USS SHELTON CDD-7905. He was then assigned to the NROTC Unit, University of Michigan as Assistant Professor of Naval Science instructing in Operations, Engineering, and Leadership curriculum. From 1964 to 1966 he assumed command of USS ELKHORN CAOG-73. LCDR THORPE was then assigned as a student at the' Naval War College command and staff course for one year. From 1968 to 1970 he was assigned as Aide and Flag Secretary on the staff of Commander Sixth Fleet. In 1971 he was assigned as Executive Officer USS DECATUR CDDG-311. He is currently in receipt of orders to the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations, Strategic Plans Division COP-605. LCDR THORPE was born on 11 September 1934 in Chicago, Illinois. His wife Sandra and two boys Christopher and Russell reside in Tustin, California.
