Rupp. Varsitg Even though this football year was a losing season for the varsity team, there was still a lot of enthusiasm shown throughout the entire nine games. We had a yotmg team with many prospects for a better season next year. Mr. Byfield handled this team as his first for Decatur. On November 8th, the annual football banquet was held. At that time awards were given to the Fourth Row: R. Catt, B. Grimes, R. Trusler, D. Dun- ham, L. McGill, W. Knopf, D. Mudd, R. Day, D. Mc- Cory. Fifth Row: J. Gladden, J. Rupp, R. Duvall, D. Herr, J. Harless, D. Huffman, G. McKinley, D. Sprinkle, L. Mann. Football boys who earned major letters and sweaters. Also the following honors were accorded these boys. Paul Larrison was the chief yard gainer with 623 yards. Paul and Richard Clarkson were elected co-captains for this season. Wayne Knopf was voted the most valuable player. Richard and Wayne received hon- orable mentions on the All County Team and Wayne was elected captain for the 1956 gridiron season.
