Student Council '1- 'F , S 5 Row One: Gary McKinley and Bessie Nees. Razz' Two: Bobby Morgan and Nancy Mundy. Ron' Three: Dave Bowman and Reba Smith. Rout' Four: Dale Williams and Joann Purdue. Our student council at Decatur is com- posed of a girl and a boy from each of the four grades. They assist Mr. Rankin in choosing the convocations for the entire student body. This year's president was Dale Williams, a senior representative. 52 The council also, oversees the initiation of the freshmen at the first of the school year. We would like to thank this group of students for the fine group of programs they have arranged for us.

Future Teachers of America The F.T.A. was organized to help stu- dents, who have ambitions to be teachers, gain some knowledge and experience in that field. The club met every month and discussed their field trips and their scholarship fund. Each year a member of the society receives twenty-five dollars toward his college expenses. The members operated the coat check at the home basketball games. Several of the members had the opportun- ity to student teach at Stephen Decatur and West Newton Grade Schools.
