To the Class of June, 1973: You have been “talked to” by parents, teachers, administrators and various groups of adults all your lives. These “talks,” I’m sure, have occurred with your best interests in mind. 1 make this point to illustrate that I’m not really sure what “words of wisdom” I should attempt to impart on this occasion. If I were inclined to give advice, it would have to be the following words found in a church located in Baltimore and dated 1692: Go placidly amid the noise and haste. W ithout surrender he on good terms with all persons. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Observe the virtue and goodness that surround you; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Take kindly the counsel of years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are lx rn of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, he gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its shame, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. On behalf of the staff and the administration, our most sincere congratulations to each of you upon your graduation from Dearborn High School. Len Mazur
