DEARBORN HIGH SCHOOL Cover Design Kathy VandeKieft DEARBORN, MICHIGAN THE REAL AGE OF TECHNOLOGY DR. YOUNG PRINCIPAL Answers to quadratic equations and the load limits on the footings for giant skyscrapers can be obtained in micro- seconds by dozens of different people from the same computer at the same time by telephone. The major airlines are using supersonic carriers for 500 passengers—jets almost without wings. The public will be riding in rockets before the year is out. RIGHT NOW is the technological ex- plosion—not last year, not next year, but right this moment as you graduate. The 104th and 105th graduating classes will see more change during the year of their graduation than did any class be- fore. I appeal to you to give attention to moral constants involving integrity, use of leisure, health, recreation, and broth- erhood; for in such an age the primary quality of human interdependence could easily be forgotten. The challenge of the future is in human morality. The 104th and 105th graduating classes have the ability to accept and promote technological change and the opportunity to maintain the moral stan- dards which are the hope of mankind. Congratulations to two great classes graduating in a great era with such a great challenge. Left to right, Back row—Jean Pipkens, Geraldine Seng, Clara Putzig. Front row—Irene Brown, Lottie Konon. Besides being a place of learning, school provides a stu- dent with additional benefits, including the opportunity to join clubs. A club is an outlet through which a person can express himself in one of his fields of interest. It may be athletics, scholarship, vocation, or pure enjoyment. A stu- dent at Dearborn High can chose from forty organizations. They all contribute in some way to building the foundation which supports the school and benefits its members. Through the many aspects of school life, one can always see the clubs doing their part to entertain, inform, or provide service to the school and community. BOOSTER CLUB Composed of spirited students, the Booster Club’s purpose has been to pro- mote school spirit throughout the school and to support our teams. The mem- bers accomplish this by sponsoring Booster buses to “away” games, selling tickets to games, publicizing sport’s events with posters, and by pinning “pep tags” on students each Friday morning of a “home” game. FRENCH CLUB A new organization this year, the French Club, guided by the teacher- sponsor, Miss Rose Feld- man, has encouraged and promoted among its mem- bers, an interest in French culture. HEALTH CAREERS The Health Careers club con- sists of girls interested in fields of health. This year, as in the past, girls have worked as volun- teers at Oakwood Hospital. This provides first hand opportunity to view the nursing profession. Under the guidance of Naomi Bo- lin, the club has several distin- guished speakers to inform the girls on various aspects of health careers. ROW 3: Betsy Price, Betty Jacobs, Cathy Ward, Sharon Savchetz, Elaine Walters, Ginny Sharpe, Marilyn Speer, Sue Pichette, Chris Pawlik, Beth Robin- son, Carol Rieger. This year one of the main projects of the Future Teachers was to restore old books no longer needed by Dearborn High students, for schools in need of such texts. They also had an entry in the Homecoming parade and began a program where each month the club studied one phase of teaching. As in the past, their meetings have been centered around a guest speaker to give them insight on their chosen profession. Y-TEENS Y-Teens is one of the most popular clubs for girls, having over 200 members which are divided into five chap- ters: Alpha Beta Kappa, Delta Phi, Epsilon Phi Iota, Omega, and Theta. These chapters are responsible for the annual Sadie Haw- kins Dance, the spring sponge dance, and candy sale. This year the girls planned an additional banquet and sleigh ride. The main purpose of the club is to promote fellowship and Christain activities and give to the girls a chance to meet new people. Thus the girls also have a responsibility to assist the YWCA in many functions. Service projects for other organizations are also a part of their program. Then he must maintain a C average and undergo the traditional initiation including a week during which the initiates are “dubs” to the older members or “masters.” The purpose of this club is to promote good sportsman- ship throughout the school and create an interest in sporting events. AMERICAN FIELD SERVICE Showing a bit of school spirit by wearing «pep tags are our 1967 ex- change students, Heidi Unterberger and Franco Lenna, and senior Connie Patterson. “Walk together all ye peoples of the earth; then and only then shall we have peace.” Under the guidance of Sally Ro- manow, president, and Frances Sanders, teacher-sponsor, the American Field Ser- vice has helped promote peace and under- standing by showing our exchange students the best side of Dearborn High. Franco Lenna comes to DHS on the AFS program from Milano, Italy. He will have one more year of high school when he returns to Italy, and then he will take exams for 20 days. If he passes and as he plans, Franco will enter college. Franco finds Dearborn High exciting, but in Italy, he says, the teachers change classes in- stead of the students, and dances are never held in the schools. Cute Heidi Unterberger rep re sents Bludenz, Austria, also on the AFS pro- gram. When she returns home, Heidi will enter college, as she has completed high school. Heidi also enjoys attending DHS and she feels the students are very friend- ly and has found it easy to become ac- quainted. Heidi resides with senior Kathy Jo Pond and her family while Franco lives with the Bob Bugby family. Accom- panied by music, swimmers go through their routines performing such graceful stunts as the Swordfish, Catalina, and Pirouette. Interesting hybrid patterns highlight the show. The Synchronettes Club is divided into three groups to accommodate everyone. Those who are just beginning in synchronized swimming and have strong strokes qualify the Pioneers. Swimmers who have learned basic and inter- mediate stunts make up the Orange Group. The Black Group is composed of aquettes with the ability to perform more advanced stunts. This year the Synchronettes presented their fifth annual water show. The theme was “King Neptune and His Court.” The entire show was choreographed, directed, and produced by the members under the guidance of Miss Johanna First Row: Linda Beslack, Barb Locke.
