Bob Beals shoots, as Wayne defend- ers wait for the rebound. Hope: Next Year a Varsity Berth Reserve Basketball The Reserves, under the direction of Coach Jim Gamboe are learning, practic- ing, and improving upon the fundamentals of basketball. The Junior Varsity plays a complete fifteen game schedule, and each player attains valuable experience. The skills and knov ledge gained this season will provide every player with the qualifications to win a varsity position next year. Steve Jacobi, Butch Lipe, Jim Huard, Jack Gilbreath. Third row: Coach Paul Winslow, Jerry Ferencz, Don Armstrong, Ed Arszno. Absent: Chuck Reisner, Bill Szalay, Manager, Woody Godfrey. Varsity Basketball Coach Paul Winslow was faced with the challenge of rebuilding last year ' s powerful squad. Coach Winslow molded the efforts of five returning lettermen and many inexperienced juniors into a sound and polished team. On the court, Captains Bill Backensto and Jon Allen provided the necessary leadership to produce a consistent win- ner. The alert and eager play of the hoopsters, the sincere coaching of Mr. Winslow, and the cheers of loyal Pioneer fans yielded a successful D.H.S. basketball season. Wrestling Wrestling is a contest of balance, endurance, and strength. The capable Mr. Ed Lanzi coaches and directs the team. Each week the team rotates captains according to individual performances in the previous meet and practices. This year ' s squad com- pleted a prosperous season with a 11-2 duel meet record and a second place in the Huron Rouge League. The Pioneer Wrestling Team of 1962- 63 has had many fine individual achievements which DHS mat enthu- siasts will not forget.
