Cther math courses offered are: two semesters of plane geometry. one semester of solid geometry, a semester of trigonometry, and shop math for those on an industrial course. Every student must take at least one year of math in order to graduate, and the seniors who fail the senior math test must take a semester of senior arithmetic, a review of practic- al and fundamental arithmetic. Mr. Marshall is working a problem on the black- board while his class looks on in the geometry class shown on the lower left of this page. Mr. Porter is giving some aid to one of his algebra students. The laboratory sciences of biology, chemistry. physics, and photography are up-to-date. Every- one must take one year of science in order to graduate, and for the student who is not interested in the laboratory sciences, physical geography, economic geography, outdoor science, and modern science are provided. To students who have taken biology, chemistry, and physics and have been outstanding in these fields, science awards are given. Mr. Gwinnell, on the left, is watching his students perform an experiment in his chemistry class. Mr. Duke is standing on the sidelines observing his his class at work. The students are sharing a microscope and are looking intently for the things which Mr. Duke had previously pointed out. Teachers B.S Jean Truckenmiller VVcstern Michigan College B S Dearborn's commercial department offers six different courses which can be of use to all students. These include bookkeeping, business English, oflice machines, retailing, shorthand, and typing. For anyone on the college course, shorthand and typing can be invaluable aids. Shorthand can be used for taking notes on class discussions or lectures, and typing reports and themes can save many hours. Commercial students are prepared through these six courses for a variety of positions. They may become stenographers, typists. bookkeepers, or sec- retaries. Girls who plan to become homemakers will find a background of com- merical subjects helpful. Everyone can use bookkeeping in filling out income tax forms or in keeping bank account records. Under the capable direction of the instructors, students learn the various business subjects in modern, efficient classrooms.
