And Counselors Who Guided Us Patiently Miss Guidner Miss Gulclner, a counselor for 109 January graduates and for all the present 1lA's, received her B.A. at the University of Kansas and her M.A. at Michigan State. She first taught at a country school at Pratt, Kansas, and then at Lawrence, Kansas. Muskegon was where she obtained her Michigan teaching experience and from there she came to DHS. She taught civics, American history, world history, and reading up until the time she became a counselor, and since then her teaching has been limited to civics. in -nut id: iii' :rl :ni 2 nG-nun ,M W., ..... . ,, Mr. Maclntyre Mr. Maclntyre, now counseling 104 June graduates and 165 11B's. at- tended Michigan State Normal for his B.A. and Wayne University for his M.A. He first taught at Dearborn High while also teaching at Oxford and Southwestern. Then he became a full time teacher at DHS, teaching math, history and physical education. He also coached the sports of foot- ball, basketball, and baseball. He is now teaching social science as well as counseling. 'N-. ll mud., fi Miss Hainline Miss Hainline, now counseling 295 June graduates, recived her B.A. at Alma College where she majored in French and mathematics. She first taught English, German, and math at Grayling High School in Grayling, Michigan. W Remember Our Assistant Principals Y, . 3 -4 , 4 1 .s, , x 523: Miss Betts Miss Betts started her teaching career as soon as she finished high school. She taught two years in a country school in Hillsdale County before she began working for her B.A. at Hillsdale College. From Hillsdale she proceeded to the University of Wisconsin where she received her M. A., and then taught two years in Alpena. Mich- igan. After coming to Dearborn and teach- ing one year, Miss Betts went to Texas where she worked in an office. In two years she came back to DHS and taught a gen- eral course until she gained her present position as assistant principal in charge of schedules. Mr. Challis Mr. Challis received his B.A. at Mich- igan State Normal College and his M.A, at the University of Michigan. He first taught chemistry, physics, and general sci- ence at Trenton High in Trenton, Mich- igan. He came to Dearborn High in 1934 and taught physics and photography. From 1940 until 1944, Mr. Challis did attendance work on a full time scale. ln 1944 the United States Navy called him to serve his country. After returning to DHS he assumed full responsibility of attendance and is now Dearborn High's assistant prin- cipal in charge of attendance.

A University of Michigan M.A. X yy ' Miidrea Koch W -PQ Michigan State Normal Fundamentally, the English Department is organized to prepare the students for the future, whether it be in college or in commercial work. Three years of English are required for graduation for a commercial course and four years for a college preparatory course. In the first and second years, a semester of grammar is alternated with a se- mester of literature to give the students a background of basic English and to acquaint them with basic American and English literature, The junior year gives a more complete course in American literature and college prep seniors complete their English course with a semester of English literature and a se- mester of senior composition. 3
