I DEAN JUNIOR COLLEGE CLASS HISTORY September l9 1954 was a dark dusmal day but ut heralded many brught days to come as the new uunuor class entered Dean Junuor College for the furst tume The next few weeks flew quuckly by as we made new fruends and accustomed ourselves to the new surroundungs The furst dance of the year was called off when tragedy struck us and two of our students were kulled one of them a member of our own class The school was shocked and mourned theur death but lufe must go on and after payung proper respect the student body resumed normal actuvutues Before we knew ut Homecomung was here and as we stood back and watched the senuors greet old fruends we wondered uf we too would act luke thus next year The faces were strange but the people had the fruendluness so characterustuc of Dean and even we as uunuors enuoyed Homecomung Whule Homecomung wos stull fresh un our memory the startled junuor gurls were unformed at 6 A M one mornung that Hell Week was here Clashung clothes aur rauds and sully stunts were the order of the day Broken nauls skunned knuclfles and brustle less tooth brushes were the result of scrubbung Awpue Way Hell Week ended wuth Kangaroo Court and when we realuzed that ut was funally over we breathed a sugh of reluef and realuzed that ut hadn t been as bad as we were afraud ut was goung to be lt seemed as uf the Chrustmas actuvutues were here before we had a chance to recover from Thanksguvung vacatuon The Chrustmas Dance was the furst of the events followed by the Wassaul Party Old Englush Dunner and Chrustmas Vespers Everyone enuoyed them and ut put us all un the Chrustmas spurut for vacatuon We d only been back from Chrustmas Vacatuon a short tume when mud years were on us After funushung exams some went home for a short vacatuon and the rest went on the annual sku trup whuch proved to be the usual success lt was un fear and tremblung that we went to receuve our marks after returnung but much to our reluef we duscovered that most of us had survuved Wunter Carnuval was the next socual event of the year and ut proved to be the most successful weekend lt started wuth the contest for choosung Muss Athena and an unformal record hop followed by a scavenger hunt the next mornung The formal dance that evenung was the hughlught wuth Elaune Bugelow and Fred Bourque as Muss Athena and Mr Ameruca carryung out the theme of the weekend taken from the movue Athena The delucuous breakfast and the specual showung of Athena and Ruver of No Return on Sunday funushed a hughly successful weekend After Wunter Carnuval we really settled down and studued untul Sprung Vacatuon We had to' May weekend came the furst weekend un May Fortunately the weather was beautuful and the processuon of the May Queen and her court went off smoothly The May Pole Dance and Debbue Jones solo followed by the May Day Ploy all went off well and added to the colorful spectacle The dance was that evenung and was gracuously reugned over by Johanne Avery our Queen Funals came quuckly after May weekend and before we knew ut the year was gone and ut was tume for the summer vacatuon lt was a hot September day that welcomed us back to Dean but no one munded as we greeted old fruends We fell quuckly unto the now famuluar routune and trued to guude the uunuors through the actuvutues so well known to us The furst dance of the year and Hell Week were already over when Homecomung the event we were really lookung forward to arruved We duscovered ut was just as much fun as ut had looked lost year and everyone had a good tume vusutung wuth the senuors and classmates who had not returned to school wuth us The famuluar Chrustmas actuvutues sped by and un no tume we were takung mud years agaun Wunter Carnuval Sprung Vacatuon and May Day have come and gone All that awauts us now us graduatuon and as we walk down Awpue VVay that last tume as students we wull have many memorues of Dean to look back on Ann Luttlehale .
