During World War II he saw action at a number of Japanese held islands in the South Pacific, in the Aleutian Islands and Northern Japan. Others tours of duty have been at the Naval War College, in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, with the staff of Commander-in-Chief, U. S. After graduating from the Naval Academy in June 1946, Lieutenant Commander Jex served on board U.S.S. FARGO QCL 1065 and U.S.S. WOR- CESTER QCL 1445. Following a year's tour with the Marine Corps as Naval Gunnery Liaison Officer, he attended the Naval Intelligence School and then was assigned to the Office of Naval Intelligence. Lieutenant Commander jex then served on the U.S.S. JAMES C. OWENS QDD 7765, U.S.S. BARRY CDD 9335, and on the Staff, Commander Destroyer Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, prior to assuming command of DEALEY in May 1960. A A . .J -A . JEX Lieutenant John VV. Walden was born in Camden, New jersey, and attended the U. S. Naval Academy, graduating in June 1952. Prior to reporting to DEALEY in July 1959, Lieutenant Wfalden served as Gunnery Officer of U.S.S. ROCKVVALL QAPA 2305 and U.S.S. LST 603, and as CIC Officer of U.S.S. WILKINSON QDL 55. He also was an instructor in the Department of Aviation at the U. S. Naval Academy.
