Lieutenant Commander Mark A. Monti United States Navy Lieutenant Commander Monti is a native of Utica, New York, and is a graduate of the State University of New York at Fredonia. He was commissioned through Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island in February, 198 1 . Following commissioning, LCDR Monti served initial sea tours in USS CONCORD CAFS 55 as Communications Officer and Electronic Materials Officer and in USS BELKNAP CCG 265, COMSIXTHFLT Flagship, homeported in Gaeta, Italy as Navigator and Administrative Officer. In October 1986, LCDR Monti was assigned duties as Operations Officer, Fleet Surveillance Support Command as the Commissioning Officer-in-charge of the Navy's first relocatable over-the-horizon radar. He was then selected to serve as the Administrative and Plans Officer for Commander, Destroyer Squadron Ten. In January 1989, LCDR Monti attended Department Head School in Newport, Rhode Island. LCDR Monti served his Department Head Tours as Operations Officers in USS PETERSON CDD 9695 and as Combat Systems Officer in USS SOUTH CAROLINA CCGN 375. In July 1993, LCDR Monti was assigned overseas shore duty as the Joint Duty Officer for the United Nations Military Armistice Commission in Panmunjom, Korea. After completing a one year, unaccompanied tour in Korea, he completed Prospective Executive Officer's School in Newport, Rhode Island. Lieutenant Commander Monti is now serving as Executive Officer, USS DEWERT CFFG 455 currently deployed to the Mediterranean Sea with the USS AMERICA Battle Group. Lieutenant Commander Monti's planned rotation date is March 1996. Lieutenant Commander Monti earned a B.A. in Political Science at Fredonia State. He has Been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Two Navy Commendation Medals, Joint Achievement Medal and Army Achievement Medal. He was selected for Commander in April 1995. Lieutenant Commander Monti's wife, Rena, is a native of Buffalo, New York, and a graduate of Fredonia State College and has a M.A. from Harrtt School of Music, University of Hartford. Commander Richard David Uyak United States Navy Commander Uyak, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, graduated from the university of Akron in 1976 and was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 1977. His initial assignment was to USS NIMITZ CCVN 685 in the Deck Department, deploying twice to the Mediterranean Sea and Indian Ocean. In 1981, Commander Uyak joined the precommissioning crew of USS CALLAGHAN CDDG 9945 and served as Navigator following commissioning until November 1982. Commander Uyak attended the Naval postgraduate School in Monterey, California, majoring in Weapons Engineering and graduated in 1985 with a degree of Master of Science in Physics. Following Department Head School in 1986, he served as Combat Systems Officer in USS COMTE DE GRASSE CDD 9745, deploying to the Mediterranean Sea. In February 1988, he relieved as Assistant Chief of Staff for Communications on the staff of Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group EIGHT, serving until April 1990. During this tour, he deployed with the Theodore Roosevelt battle group to the Mediterranean Sea. Commander Uyak was Executive Officer in USS CONOLLY CDD 9795 from June 1990 to November 1991. Ashore, Commander Uyak served on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations in the Surface Warfare Division CN 865. In addition to various service and expeditionary medals, Commander Uyak has earned the following personal awards: the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal Ctwo awards5, and the Navy Achievement Medal. He is married to the former Brenda Stuart Tierney of Virginia Beach, Virginia. They have three children: Brian, Kelly, and Kathleen. USS DEWERT it 7
