The class rings were orderedin the spring of 1964. These were received shortly after the beginning of this school year. The first days of school brought the election of class officers and student council representatives. Committees were also set up to start preparing for the fast-approaching Homecoming dance. Nerves grew taut and tension molmted as Homecoming was close at hand. All soon relaxed as the dance was a huge success. The Junior class continued supporting activities and participating in social events. The latest and probably the most important social event was the Junior-Senior Prom. We are now ready for our Senior year. The job consisted of taking pictures, planning and managing pages, typing copy, matching faces with names, and meeting ever-present deadlines. We were fortunate this year to have a responsible and capable editor, who with the help and cooperation from the staff, made this annual possible. We have worked long and hard and present to you your 1965 River Log. The 1964 varsity football season began September 4 on the Pirate's field with the team meeting a strong Royall squad. After the first game the Pirates showed strong potential for the coming season. Hillsboro provided the first away game, and again the Pirates were defeated. The team finally broke into the winning column by defeating both Cashton and Wonewoc on successive weeks. A very strong Westby team came to De Soto and spoiled our Dad's Night with a winning score. After losing again to New Lisbon, the team reached their peak with a smashing victory over Onalaska Luther. The tide rolled on as this year's team awarded De Soto with its first Homecoming victory by beating Brookwood 12-O. Riddled with injuries, the team ended its season at Weston by losing. Coaches: D. There was a turn out of about twenty-seven boys by the end of the season. The season was not a failure as five games were played, losing three and winning two. The team showed good promise, and with a few more games would have played fine football. The longest rtm of the season was made by Bill Williams who ran a kickoff back for 85 yards against a powerful Westby eleven. ROW 1: T. Fjelstad, F. Steinforfg A. Emersong E. Weinbergg J. Slamag B.
