Kaye Harley, Jim Walsh, Larry Moore, and Mary Moore, Advisor. HERE WE ARE FOR WHAT WE ' RE WORTH! ! As you can see, by this picture, this year ' s ECHO Staff was always in the hustle and bustle of things (with some encouragement from Mrs. Moore). Notice how neat and orderly we kept our files!? Oh, Boy! ! The Staff strongly urges that unless you have sturdy nerves, you not look through the pages of this book READ AT YOUR OWN RISK! But all kidding aside, we truly hope you enjoy this record of the 1962-63 school season in words and pictures. With the capable guidance of Mary Moore, we have tried to produce an annual which YOU will treasure in the years to come. BEST WISHES TO ALL OF YOU Sincerely, THE ECHO STAFF OF ' 62-63 DEDICATION The members of the graduating class of nineteen hundred and sixty-three dedi- cate this edition of the ECHO to our parents. Our parents have been the most constructive force in our lixes. The men and women we shall be, will be directly affected, more than we realize, by the examples our parents have set before us. Through the observation of our parents we have developed many traits. We have watched our parents ' examples of how to live, how to treat other people, and the ways to be a successful individual in life. Although we may not have always agreed with our parents, we could sense that in their reasoning there seemed to be a deeper understanding of our problems than we ourselves had. Wliile disagreeing, we have found that many of the things our parents told us were more important than we realized. We still are not able to fully compre- hend the truth and understanding our parents have given us; but we have come to the place in life where we realize that we truly appreciate and lo e our parents. Therefore, as a small form of this appreciation, we dedicate our yearbook -- a labor of our own hands -- to those who have helped us and who have always done whatever they could for us. A TEACHER ' S CREED I Believe in boys and girls, the men and women of a great tomorrow; that what- soever the boy soweth the man shall reap. I Believe in the curse of ignorance; in the efficacy of schools; in the dignity of teaching, and in the joy of serving others. I Believe in wisdom as revealed in human lives as well as in the pages of the printed book; in lessons taught, not so much by precept as by example; in ability to work with the hands as well as to think with the head; in everything that makes life large and lovely. 1 Believe in beauty in the schoolroom, in the home, in daily life, and out- of-doors. 1 Believe in laughter; in love; in faith; in all ideals and distant hopes that lure us on. 1 Believe that every hour of every day we receive a just reward for all re are and all we do. I Believe in the present and its opportunities; in the future and its promises; and in the divine joy of living. Nauman, Ph. D. Dean of Men Columbia University Washington 26, D.C. Dear Mr. Nauman, Recently 1 entered a contest called, Why I Would Like To Visit My Old Classmates. I wrote my essay, mailed my letter, and to my surprise won the contest. My reward was a trip to see all of my old classmates. Having just returned from that trip, I thought I ' d write and tell you what each of them is doing now. Well to start the trip, I went to Europe. My first stop was Paris, France, where I had a visit with DONNA ASHBY. She is married to a famous restaurant owner and they have eight children. Their ultra-modern home is overlooking the French Rivera. Next I went to Rome, Italy. Here I saw SHERRY RILEY. She has become a famous model and is married to a famous dress designer. They have two lovely children. After the stay in Europe, my journey brought me back to the States, where my first, step was Cape Canaveral in Florida. This is where STEVE LUCAS lives and works as a scientist. Next month he is going aloft in the United States first space platform. Steve is married and has three children. Upon leaving Florida, I went to Washington, D.C. Here I was greeted by JIM WALSH, his wife, and their five children. Jim is serving on the President ' s Cabinet as Attorney General. He took me to the White House where I met the President and the First Lady. It was quite an honor! LARRY DUNCAN also lives in Washington with his wife and three children. He is spec- ial agent in charge of field activities for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. From Washington, I proceeded to Greenwich Village in New York. CHRIS BROWER lives here as a novelist. He is now writing his second novel, after his first was one of the Nation ' s best sellers. Chris has never married. that PANSY BLANKENSHIP lives just a few miles outside of New ate secretary to the Vice-President of American Telephone Tele- rried. They have four children. sin to see TOM LUCAS. He is owner of one of the country ' s largest nd has three sons. You ' ve heard of Lucas Sons ' Black Angus Beau- After leaving Tom ' s ranch, I went to Iowa to visit KAREN WHITEHAIR and her husband. Karen is a Business Teacher in the state ' s most modern high school. Her husband is manager of the Des Moines branch o the Farm Bureau. They have four rambunctious children. Next my trip took me to see KAREN (BAXLA) MYERS and VAN MYERS in Nevada. Van is now a Veterinarian and rancher. He and Karen live on a 150 acre ranch where Karen is hap- py just watching their four children. After leaving the Myers ' I went to Arizona to see J, KAYE (HARLEY) WILSON. J. Kaye ' s husband is superintendent of the Tucson Branch of General Motors. They live in a beautiful colonial style home and have four children. From Arizona I flew to New Mexico to see JERRY SPRINGER and his wife. Jerry is owner and operator of the dude ranch, which is a very famous resort. Many movie stars go there for their vacations. While 1 was there I saw Liz Taylor and her twelfth husband. Jerry and his wife have six charming children. Jerry said that LARl Y MOORE was in California, so off I flew. 1 was lucky to catch Larry between classes. He is now a Professor of History at U.C.L. A. Larry and his wife have three children. After a days layover, I went with Larry and his family to the Rose Bowl Parade. We had a wonderful time. In Los Angeles 1 was met by EMILEE GLOVER and her husband. Emilee is a Pediatrician in the city ' s finest hospital and her husband is a brain surgeon. They have two intelligent child- ren. After leaving L. A. , 1 went to Hollywood where MARY and MARTHA BICKFORD are mak- ing records for R.C. A. Victor. I ' m sure you ' ve heard tlieir latest hit; it ' s on the top ten. Mary is married to a director and has five children, while Martha is married to a playwrite and raises a family of four. Upon leaving California, I went to Hawaii. Here I went to see ROSY CANADA. Her husband is an Admiral m tire Na ' y and Rosy is a teacher in one of the schools. They have three little boys. JAYNE HUFFMAN also li es in Hawaii so 1 went to see her next. She is the secretary to the President of the Hawaiian Pineapple Co. Jayne is married and has three children. From Hawa ii I went to see LARRY DYER in Korea where he is a medical missionary. Larry is married and has a family of three. 1 hope you have enjoyed hearing about tlie class. All of them have had good fortune and they are all very happy. Fortune has smiled on me too. 1 am married and have three children. We live in Fort Wayne, Indiana where my husband is Vice-President in one of the city ' s finest banks.
