For the past twelve years they had struggled to attain the goal which they now had achieved. Hunter and Fred Wil1's gridiron squad,consisting of twenty-nine members, finished the 1954-55 season with a rec- ord of nine wins and no losses. The unbeaten Dragons were the Mineral Area Champions for 1954-55. Ed Cfroat and Ronald Warden were the Co-Captains for the Dragons. During the course of the season,the Dragons lost the services of Daniel Vance, the Dragons left half-backg and Archie Chapman pass receiver de luxe. Vance received a broken leg in the Far- mington game, and Chapman sustained a back injury in the Herky contest. Norman Sheldon was also sidelined with a stomach in- jury. They were coached by Mr. Fred Will and Mr. Hunter,who assisted the team with a few pointers. The Dragons took second place in the tournament again this year, losing to Potosi by the score of 58-57. The second tournament was the Desloge Invitational Tournament. In this tournament the Dragons were beaten by Desloge in the semi-finals. In the finals we beat Bismark for third place. The third tournament was the Regional Tournament held at the new Fredricktown gym from February 22-25. The results of this tournament were not known at the time the Dragon Tales went to press. The 1954-55 record of the Varsity Squad was a very good one. They were Jefferson County Champs and had only lost two games. Among these were: Festus, first place winnerg De Soto, second place, Silex, Missouri, grand champion. On Monday, January 31, Mr. H. Scott, regional manager of Union Electric, presented to Miss Fitch's government class the certificate for S300 which they won for theirfine work on planned progress. This year's Planned Progress reports consisted of: farmer's center, clean-up campaign of Joachim Creek, town band and summer recreation, Last year De Soto was chosen first place winner and received an award of 51000. Miss Fitch and her government class won first place the year before, too, The assembly got under way Monday with T. C. Brickey, the district manager at Festus, giv- ing a complimentary remark about the excellent work the students of DHS had made. Mr. Brickey introduced Mr, Harry Scott who presented the plaque to Mary Ann Singer, presi- dent of planned progress and the certificate to Mr. J. C. The Student Council has gained recognition as a worthy party of the school. Officers for the first semester were: president, Dale John- ston: vice-president, Bob Ganningerg secretary-treasurer, Ruth Ann Schuh. The Council sponsored three parties, the most outstanding be- ing the Christmas party. The Council sponsored the March of Dimes basketball game between the men of the faculty and the senior boys. Miss Baker, one of the most popular girls in school, was a Senior cheerleader. She had an abundant amount of enthusiasm and school spirit. Eunie was escorted to the throne by Bobby Edwards and Don Agers where she was crowned by Doyle Pollock. Donnie Parmeley then presented her with a keepsake bracelet. Eunie's picture did not appear in last year's book. It is seen in the 1955 Dragon Tales.
