LIEUTENANT COM MANDER Bruce A. Friedsam COMMANDING OFFICER Lieutenant Commander Bruce Alexander Friedsam was born in New York City on July 12, 1937. He attended schools in New York, Ohio and New Jersey. In 1960 he was graduated from Bloomfield College, receiving his Bachelor- of Science degree in Physics. He was commissioned from Naval Officer Candidate School, NGWDOT13, R.l. in March 1961. After attending communications and electronics schools, he reported aboard USS PURDY QDD-7345 and assumed duties as EMO! Communica- tions Officer. ln November 1962 he attended Destroyer School, and upon graduating was ordered to USS JOHN WILLIS CDE-10275 as Engineer Officer. This tour was followed by assignment as Engineer Officer and member of the precommissioning detail of the USS BRUMBY QDE- 10445. In January 1967 he attended Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif. working toward a degree in Computer Science From December 1968 to December 1969 he served as Computer Systems Analyst for Commander U.S. Naval Forces, Vietnam. LCDR. Friedsam assumed command of the DESOTO COUNTY on F . . e'01'UHI'Y 6, 1970. He is married to the former Jacquelyn Margaret Sauer of Bloomfield, N.J.
