Representing the eight home rooms, this organization met regularly during the year in order to structure, plan, and pro mote school activities and make recommenda- tions aimed at solving student problems brought before them.

Van Del and Fr. Taylor. Taylor taught the basic techniques of debate as well is the essentials of oral interpretation and extemporaneous speaking. SPEECHMEN PREPARE FOR FUTURE . . . Under the leadership of Fr. Taylor and with the aid of Fr. Van Del, a comprehensive Speech and Debate program was inaugurated this year at De Smet. During this year, De Smet became a member of the Greater St. Louis Speech Association and through this as- sociation gained many hours of practical tour- nament experience. Considering the good per- formance at these tournaments and the many compliments received from several coaches in the area on their work, the members of the Speech and Debate Club had a fine year. The wide range of talent demonstrated this year in these activities indicates a promising future for speech and debate at De Smet.
