BASKETB LL Spartan basketball got off to a good start at De Smet with the schoolis first team displaying an unusual amount of talent-both actual and potential. And when the season ended Mr. Morgan and his squad were able to happily look back to an 8-7 record. The season began with an encounter with Season Record: 8-7 Chaminade and ended with a repeat perfor- De Smet , Opponents mance, beating the Flyers both times. Between 50 Chamlnade 34 those games the Spartans met some of the 45 Rosary 32 toughest competition in the area. Perhaps one 40 SLUH 61 of the most memorable games was the SLUH 32 Prep' Sem' SO' 32 contest. De Smet was forced to bow to the Jr. 42 Duchesne 63 Bills and thus experienced one of the hardest 33 Rflsary 36 losses of the season. But the team's ability to 53 Vlanney, 47 win was clearly demonstrated in victories over 24 St' Mary S 42 such teams as McBride, Rosary, and Vianney. 46 Dgchesne 61 The Spartans beat the latter team twice and in 49 C 56 doing so handed the Criffins the only two 65 lannfiy 63 losses of their season. 37 Chammade 31 TOURNAMENT Pride, hard work, and determination together 50 McBride 36 with a good coach are what make a good team, 37 CBC 47 and all these factors were present this year. 47 Rosary 58 Much credit should be given to Mr. Morgan who brought the team through a difficult but 705 TOTALS 702 successful season.
